day twenty-six.
Zero didn't go to school that day either. Chase noticed the still full plate atop the kitchen table in the morning once he'd awoken. He tossed the food out for the stray cats and dogs in his street and prepared breakfast for that day. Even though Zero hadn't eaten his food, he still made him a plate in the hopes that he would eat it this time.
After having finished the day's preparations, Chase took a shower and got dressed for school and left after giving Kitty a little peck on the top of her head.
Chase found it extra hard to focus in class that day. Every now and then, he found himself opening Zero's contact on his phone - almost sending him a text message asking him about his well being.
Finally, he settled with the message 'Please let me know when you're ready to talk to me again' and switched his phone off to avoid any distractions.
Chase wasn't sure whether what he had done was wrong or not. He would've certainly regretted it if he hadn't kissed Zero back that day - but would Zero have taken rejection better? Did he regret kissing Chase?
"I can still feel his damn lips on mine," Chase whispered to himself in frustration.
That day, when Chase was preparing himself to walk back home alone - he saw an unfamiliar girl make his way over to him.
She had olive-coloured skin and brooding hazel-brown eyes. Her hair looked neatly brushed and reached just above her shoulder. It goes without saying that she was definitely gorgeous. If Chase hadn't been a flaming homosexual, his heart would have already been racing at the mere sight of her.
"Hey!" she spoke, her voice nearly as smooth as Zero's.
Chase inwardly smacked himself.
Why was Zero still the only thing on his mind?
"Hi, do I know you?" he responded bluntly.
"Well.. er- I'm in your class but I don't think you've ever noticed me," she informed.
"Alright. How can I help you?"
By then they had already begun walking.
"Lately I've noticed you walking back home by yourself - hold on, that sounds creepy. I haven't been watching you or anything - it's just.. I live just down the street from where you do, so I figured that we could walk home together today."
Chase responded with a grin that didn't meet his eyes. A grin that had basically been invented by Zero.
'You idiot, stop thinking about Zero,' Chase scolded himself mentally.
They walked the entire way back home in silence. When Chase found his way onto his porch, he thanked the girl for having gone through the trouble of walking with such a loser. She only laughed it off and claimed that it was nothing and that she had enjoyed his company.
As Chase fumbled with the keys to his home, he didn't notice Zero peering out of the window.
And Zero didn't know why his heart hurt so much from having seen Chase with someone else.
