The group of boys, with the exception of Zero, had met up after class and had spent half an hour waiting for Zero's arrival. But, when he didn't show up - they decided to begin their little adventure back home without him, though Chase was a little hesitant in the beginning. 

They were busy talking about some anime that Chase had never heard of, when suddenly the topic of Zero came up. 

Upon hearing his best friend's name escaping the lips of his friends, Chase was immediately interested in the conversation. 

"Did you guys say Zero?" he questioned. 

At this, Jason chuckled, "Finally you've decided to say something."

"And only when we talk about Zero, huh?" Tyler teased, nudging Chase with his elbow.

Chase shoved Tyler with his elbow along with a scoff, "Cut it out. I'm just curious, that's all."

"And you have every right to be," Oliver shrugged. "After all he's your best friend.. or crush?"

"Guys, stop," Chase pleaded, unable to help the red tint on his cheeks.

"Oh, he's blushing!" Tyler shrieked, followed by a giggle.

He ruffled Chase's hair once he had collected himself, "I'm sorry, I'm just playing around."

"Speaking of Zero, though," Oliver began. "We don't really know much about him, do we?"

Jason nodded, "Now that I think about it, you're right."

"What do you mean we don't know much about him?" Chase snorted. "He's our best friend. We know him better than anybody else."

"Not better than he knows himself," Tyler stated. "But you've got to admit, Jason and Oliver do have a point. We don't know much about his past - his parents, if he's got any siblings.. we don't even know his surname now that I think about it. We don't know why he calls himself Zero. We don't know why he never invites us to his home. We never know why he always bails on our plans in the last minute. Do we even know him at all? Are we seriously awarding a stranger the title of our best friend?"

"Don't say that," Chase scoffed. "He'll tell us all that when he's ready. I think he's just being generous and doesn't want to make everything about himself. You're making it sound like he's some serial killer on the loose."

"He could be," Oliver joked before turning serious. "But I don't mind the way he behaves. He's a really nice guy. He's always so positive and happy, you can't help but smile when he's around."

Chase silently agreed.

"Why didn't he show up today?" Jason pouted.

"He's probably hanging around with the volleyball club students," Chase started. "He's trying to get better at it."

"Volleyball club?" Oliver snorted. "Chase, I'm in the volleyball club. Zero isn't a part of our club."
