day six.
Chase didn't have school that day. He spent the entire morning in bed, staring up at his ceiling - wondering how Zero was doing. His heart ached every single time he thought about the male. He feared the worst - what if Zero had already taken his life? What if he had broken the promise and ended up hurting himself deliberately? What if Zero was in danger?
His fever was beginning to go down but him worrying was agitating it and having an ill effect on his recovery. However, he paid no mind to his own health. He was too busy being concerned about his best friend.
Before he knew it, his eyes were beginning to close - and he drifted off into a deep slumber.
He was awoken somewhere around half past seven, and immediately bolted upright on his bed. He had slept throughout the entire day, how productive. His stomach let out a deep rumble which reminded him that he hadn't eaten anything for the entire day.
With a groan, he dragged himself out of bed and went to answer the front door. The person, whoever they were, was ringing the doorbell continuously - which annoyed Chase greatly.
He peered through the peephole and when he saw him, all traces of annoyance on his face were immediately swept away. He pulled the door open instantly and gasped at the sight of his best friend.
Battered and bruised, there he stood. The one person Chase had been dying to see. Yet, he didn't want to see him like this.
"Oh my god, Zero - come in," Chase said in a hurry, stepping aside so the boy could enter. He noticed the boy holding a bundle of thin blankets in his arms, all rolled up as if he were cradling a baby. "Who did this to you?"
"I'll answer all your questions later," Zero said with a cough, which didn't come off as a surprise to Chase. It was pouring heavily outside, and Zero was drenched from head to toe. Well, at least he didn't have to be sick alone.
Zero set the bundle of blankets on the couch and began to unwrap them. That was when Chase saw it - a malnourished kitten barely the size of his palm.
"I found her on the street by my home a few days earlier," he confessed. "I took time off of school to take care of her. I tried to keep her a secret from my mom, it didn't work."
That was when Chase put two and two together.
"Your mom-.. she did that to you?"
Zero nodded.
