THIRD POV

Ian walked through the front door of the house. "Mom? (Y/N)?" When he didn't get an answer he walked up to his room, flipped the light on and set down his dad's sweatshirt. Picking up the notebook he looked at the things he had listed to do. He clicked his pen and started to cross out the items, remembering what had happened today. With a huff he threw his notebook across the desk and slumped into his chair.

He looked up at his bulletin board, which had pictures of his mom, his dad, Barley and (Y/N). He took the boom box from under his desk and placed it under the pictures. He opened a drawer and took out the tape which said DAD, placed it in the boom box and pressed play.

"Will, you're not gonna get that thing working." A recorded voice of his mom said through the speakers.

"I think I got it" his dad rang out.

"I'm gonna watch from over here for when it blows up."

"Hello? Hello?"

"I'll bet good money you can't get it to work."

"Oh is that right?"

"Yep. But you're doing a good job of making it look like you know what you're doing."

"Well, I'm trying to."

His mom's voice got drowned out as she started to walk away from the reorder, but his dad continued to speak. "I know......... Let's find out............. Okay bye."

Ian rewound the tape and played it again, this time talking to his dad.

(Y/N)'S POV

I was sitting in my room scrolling the internet, when I herd dad's voice. I knew Ian listened to that recording! So that's where it went.

I picked up my birthday present for Ian and tiptoed to his room. I cracked the door open enough so I could see and hear what he was doing, but that he wouldn't see me. He rewound the tape and played it again.

"I think I've got it."

"Hi dad." Ian said to the boom box.

"Hello? Hello?"

"It's me. Ian"

"Oh, is that right?"

"Yeah. Did you have a good day?"

"Well I'm trying to."

"Yeah, me, too. Though I could clearly use some help. I sure do wish I could spend the day with you sometime."

"I know."

"Well, there are so many things we could do. I bet it'd be really fun!"

"Well, let's find out."

"Yeah! I mean, I'd love to we could uh..."

"Okay, bye."

I saw Ian slump back in his chair in defeat before I took a deep breath and went into his room. The door creaked a little and Ian practically leaped out of his chair. "AAH! (Y/N)! You could've gave me a heart attack."

"Sorry fuzzbrain." I responded before ruffling his curly blue hair.

"H-how much of that did you hear?"

"Pretty much the whole thing."

"Great. You must think I'm crazy."

I took out the present from behind my back, "Not as much as you think." I said handing him the neatly wrapped gift.

Ian took the small package out of my hands, and hesitantly ripped the wrapping paper off. When he successfully removed the wrapping paper, a tape that said DAD 2 on it rested in his hands.

"(Y-Y/N)! Where did you get this?"

"Doesn't matter. Just play it."

Ian slipped the tape into the boombox and it started. "Hello!" their dad's voice rang out.

"H-hey dad. How's life" I said back. The look on Ian's face was priceless, but the tape continued on.

"Good. Good. (Y/N)! (Y/N)! Get back here! She is going crazy."

"Well, I can't help that."

"Sure."

"Ask my brothers! They don't think I'm crazy!"

"Hmmm, maybe I will."

"You know, I bet mom would be on my side."

"Well, I don't think that's right!"

"Oh come on. You know you love me."

"Of course I do. Well that's it for now. See you!"

"See you soon Dad."

Ian's mouth was hanging open and he was staring at me. "What?" I giggled.

"You talk to dad too! I'm not crazy!" He celebrated.

"Well now you can have a new conversation with dad."

"Wait? You're letting me keep this?"

"Yeah, isn't that what birthday presents are? Now, let's go sew that hoodie."
