(Y/N)'S POV

I sat in the passenger seat of Barley's 'beautifully ugly' purple van as we left New Mushroomton. Barley's quest mix was blaring throughout the car as we pulled up to the toll booth to go onto the bridge. As we hit a bump I listened to Ian babbling about something in the back. "...It's just this award for math. It's no big deal. But I'll uh, show you when we get back home."

"What are you  two chatty charlies up to back there?" I said with a smirk.

"Well, you know, I felt weird talking to dad without a top half so..." he explained while plopping a homemade torso on dad's legs, "Ta-da!"

"That's awesome!" Barley joined in, "Dad, you look just like I remember. Don't worry, we'll have the rest of you here before you know it. And then first thing I'm gonna do, introduce you to Guinevere. Rebuilt this old girl myself, from the lug nuts to the air conditioning."

Barley pressed a red button and it blasted out air, messing up my curly blue hair. Ian snuck in between the chairs and pressed the button again causing the air to stop, before collapsing between the two seats. "Showing dad your van?" he asked, "That's your whole list?"

"What list?" Barley shot back as Ian pulled out his small notebook.

I smirked at the list that was written in there, "What's that?"

"I'm just working on a list of things I wanted to do with dad. You know, Play catch, Take a walk, driving lesson, share my whole life story with him."

"That's cool."

Then Barley got a realization, "Oh. Before you cast dad's spell again, you're gonna have to practice your magic."

Barley threw the book at Ian, just missing his head. "Barley, this is for a game." he sighed.

"I told you everything in Quests of Yore is is historically accurate. Even the spells. So start practicing young sorcerer."

"Barley..."

"Stop fighting you two. Ian just try the magic so Barley will be happy. Who knows it might actually work."

"Fine. Okay dad, let's try some magic."

THIRD POV

Laurel got back and out the cake into the fridge. When the house was silent she knew something was up. Blazey was at her feet as she peeked into Barley's room. No one was there. She went upstairs now and checked in (Y/N)'s room. No sign of her daughter. They must be in Ian's room.

"Hey sweeties?" she called before Blazey was circling around her feet, "Guys do you want some cake?"

When she approached Ian's door there was a note on the front. 'Be back with mind blowing surprise!!' was written with (Y/N)'s handwriting. She was confused, but then she looked in Ian's room and saw that there was no kids, and a huge mess on the ground. She realized that Ian's phone was on the bed and was cracked so bad it was broken. Blazey went to the desk and saw the cards of the Manticore's tavern and Phoenix Gem.

She ran into (Y/N)'s room and found that her phone and bag were still there. Then she ran down to Barley's room. His phone was also here, but his wallet and keys were gone. I buy the phones for one reason! And they forget them! What is the point? She grabbed her keys and ran out to her green car. (Y/N)'s blue car was still there, but Barley's van was missing. Why didn't they take (Y/N)'s car? It's much newer and safer!

She pulled out of the driveway and started to go to the  Manticore's Tavern.
