THIRD POV

"Barley! Keep your soldiers off your land or our kingdoms will go to war!" Laurel scolded as she kicked one of Barley's toy soldiers into his room. She walked into the living room to see (Y/N) and Ian sewing their Dad's sweatshirt. "Guys, I was going to do that."

"It's okay." Ian said as he helped (Y/N) by holding the sweatshirt in place.

"Wow, (Y/N)! You must've been taught by some kind of sewing master."

"Yeah." (Y/N) giggled as she got up from the couch, "A very humble sewing master."

Ian cut the string and continued to hold the hoodie, running his finger over his dad's name. "What was dad like, when he was my age? Was he always super confident?"

"Oh. No. It took him a while to find out who he was."

"I wish I'd met him."

"Oh, me too. And Barley barely remembers anything about him, so does (Y/N). But hey, you know, when your dad got sick, he fought so hard because he wanted to meet you more than anything."

Ian sighed and looked down at the sweatshirt once again. Laurel then remembered something, "You know what? I have something for you. I was gonna wait until after cake, but I think you've waited long enough."

"What is it?"

"It's a gift from your dad."

~~~~~~
The kids scurried up the stairs to where their mom was. "Waddya mean it's from dad?" Barley asked.
"I don't know. Mom said it was for all three of us."
"What is it?" (Y/N) quizzed.
Laurel came down the stairs, struggling to hold a long thing of fabric. "He just said to give you this when you three were over 16. I have no idea what it is!" The boys took the suspicious package into Ian's room. They laid it down on the bed and took apart the knots that were holding it together. When Ian pulled back the fabric, there was a weird looking stick inside. Barley immediately knew what it was.
"NO WAY!" he shouted, "It's a wizard staff. Dad was a wizard!"
Ian and (Y/N) were totally confused and Laurel was freaked out. "Hold on, your dad was an accountant. I mean he got interested in a lot of strange things when he got sick, but....."
(Y/N)'s attention turned back to the piece of fabric on the bed. When she noticed that there was a piece of paper still into the fabric, she nudged Ian. That snapped him out of his state of shock, and turned his attention to where (Y/N) was looking. With a shaky hand he grabbed the paper out of the folds. "There's a letter."
Barley and Laurel turned to Ian and (Y/N) before Ian started to read the letter out loud. "Dear Ian, Barley, and (Y/N), Long ago the world was full of wonder. It was adventurous, exiting, and best of all there was magic. And that magic helped all in need. But it wasn't easy to master. And so the world found a simpler way to get by. Over time, magic faded away, but I hope there's still a little magic left in you. And so I wrote this spell, so I could see for myself who my kids grew up to be."
Ian flipped that page behind the second one and he saw some drawings. Barley snatched the papers our of Ian's hand and scanned the pictures. "I don't believe this." he gaped, "This spell brings him back. For one whole day, dad will be back!"
"What!?" Laurel squeaked.
"Back, like back to life?" (Y/N) asked as she now snatched the papers, "That's not possible."
"It is with this!" Barley said picking up the wizard staff.
"I'm gonna meet dad?" Ian sighed in wonder.
"Oh, Will, you wonderful nut. What is this?" Laurel asked as she snatched the papers from her daughter, still in disbelief.
"Now a spell this powerful needs an assist element." Barley muttered as he felt around in the fabric. "For this to work dad would've needed to find A PHOENIX GEM! Woah, there's only a few of these left."
"Hold on! Is this dangerous?" Laurel yelped.
"We're about to find out." Barley said with determination as he popped the Phoenix Gem into the top of the staff. "AAH!"
"What?" The other three gasped.
"Splinter." he decided before turning back to the staff, "Only once is all we get, Grant me this rebirth. Until tomorrow's sun has set, one day to walk the earth!" he slammed down the wizard staff on the ground and nothing happened., "Hold on. I was just grippin' it wrong. Only once is all we get grant me this rebirth. Until tomorrow's sun has set, one day to walk the earth."
