THIRD POV

"So, where is your sword?" Laurel asked as she got out of the car. They were parked in a mostly empty lot where a couple of store's signs were lit up.

"It lies behind those gates!" The Manticore said dramatically, pointing at a pawn shop right in front of them, "If we don't leave here with the sword, your kids are doomed.

~~~~~~
"There you are." the owner of the pawn shop said, throwing a odd looking contraption onto the counter, "One garlic crusher."
"No!" The Manticore exclaimed, "Curse crusher. It's a large magical sword."
"Sword, sword, sword." the lady mumbled as she fumbled around behind the counter, "I mean, I got this thing."
She pulled out a sword from a barrel, and it was bigger than her. "That's it!" The Manticore squealed.
"How much?" Laurel questioned with a smile.
"Let's call it, uh, ten?"
"Great!"
"Forged of the rarest metals." The Manticore uttered as she looked at the sword, "The only sword of it's kind in all the land. Hello old friend. We shall never part again."
The pawn shop lady heard this and her ears perked up. "Op! Turns out that this sword is the only sword of it's kind in all the land. So let's call it ten...thousand." she hissed.
Laurel gasped, "You can't do that!"
"Well I just did."
"Okay you had better..." Laruel started, but then her phone rang. She turned around and picked up the call.
"Hey." Colt said over the phone, "I just talked to some other officers, and they just said the kids were last seen going north."
"Are they okay?"
"They're fine. But the officers said..... Well, honey, this night keeps getting stranger and stranger."
Laurel turned back to the bench as her boyfriend was still talking on the phone. "Do you know who I am?" the Manticore pleaded.
"Some kind of winged bear-snake lady?"
"Winged lion-scorpion lady! Argh!"
"It sure does." Laurel said back into the phone before turning toward the pawn shop owner, "Listen, I need that sword. My kids have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see their father. Now my oldest daughter....."
Before she could talk more, the Manticore stuck her tail into the shop lady's neck. Her eyes went wide and she fell to the ground.
"Holy son of a... YOU KILLED HER!" Laurel screeched, looking over the counter.
"It's okay." the Manticore soothed, "She's only temporarily paralyzed."
"Hey! You can't do this." the lady tried to sputter.
"Well I just did."
"Grab the sword!"
"Don't you touch that!"
"Here you go," Laurel said putting a little money on the counter, "And a little something extra for your trouble. I love your store! Oh that's so pretty."
She walked out the door and flipped the sign from open to closed. The two ladies whooped and laughed and got into the car.
"LAUREL!" Colt said through the phone, obviously worried, "Hello? Are you alright? Laurel!"
"Oh, Colt, I can't talk. The kids need me." Laurel said speeding out of the parking lot.
~~~~~~

"Wait!" Colt tried, but Laurel had already hung up. "Dang those kids!" he told himself throwing down his headphones. He drive down the road, but as he was driving something shimmering caught his eye. He pulled the car over and got out, shining a flashlight on the mysterious object. The object turned out to be a bumper with the license plate GWNIVER. He knew where that license plate came from. He slammed the gas and went down the bumpy path.
