THIRD POV

For an hour, Barley kept trying to get the want to work, making everyone lose hope. Ian sat on the bed with Blazey in his lap, losing interest in Barley. (Y/N) and Laurel looked at Barley with sadness as nothing continued to happen.

"Barley." their mom sighed. He set the staff down and sat between his mom and (Y/N) and looked at the spell again.

"I'm sorry you guys don't have your dad here, but this shows how much he wanted to see you three. So much that he'd try anything. That's still a pretty special gift."

"Yeah." Ian sighed.

Barley also sighed in sadness as he got up out of the bed and (Y/N) followed putting a hand on his shoulder.

"(Y/N), do you think that dad is still here? With us I mean." Barley asked his older sister.

"Of course dad is still with us. He's been with us our entire lives, just his body isn't physically here."

"Yeah, thanks. I needed that." he said as the two hugged, "Colt could never be as good as him."

"You even compare him to dad?" (Y/N) chuckled, "He's just mom's way to get away from us!"

"Pfft haha, Yeah. I mean of all people she has to pick the one who chuckles like that old cartoon we used to watch."

"I remember that!"

The two continued to make fun of Colt until they heard a thud come from Ian's room. Then there was another thud. They approached Ian's room and saw stuff flying around his room, with a very worried looking Ian holding a wizard staff in the middle. "Holy Tooth of Zadar!" (Y/N) exclaimed.

"How did you..?" Barley continued before being inerruped by Ian.

"I dunno know. It just started."

A glowing blue light came our of the staff, pointing down to the ground. Suddenly two feet appeared out of nowhere. "Woah. Feet."

Two ugly purple socks came into view, much like the sock in (Y/N)'s room. His khakis were next, but once his shirt came into view, the light went from blue to red. Ian tried to keep control of the wand, but he was slipping. "Hang on!" (Y/N) cried.

"I can help!" Barley shouted lunging toward Ian.

"Barley, No!"

As Barley neared Ian, the Phoenix Gem exploded throwing the kids down. (Y/N) helped Barley up, and Barley helped Ian up. When they scanned the room, there was no one there. Suddenly there was rustling in the closet. A foot popped out from the fallen clothes and the three started to walk over there. Their dad stood up with a load of laundry stuck on him. Once he started to move a little, the clothes fell off, revealing that there was no top half. "Aah! He's just legs!" Barley gasped.

The pair of legs started to feel around and the three were kinda freaking out. "There's no top part." (Y/N) pointed out the obvious, "I definitely remember dad having a top part!"

"Oh what did I do." Ian shuttered, "This is horrible."

The legs started to move around, tapping on the ground, trying to get a grip of his surroundings. As the legs approached, the kids moved a little closer in confusion. Ian put his hand over the top of the legs, confirming that the top was nonexistent. The legs once again tried to feel around, again when barley breathed, "It's really him. Dad! You are in your house!"

Their dad ran into the desk, falling over, before the three rushed over to help him. "He can't hear us." Ian groaned.

Then Barley had a point of realization. He went over to the legs and touched the foot. The legs jumped in surprise, before Barley tapped again.

"What are you doing?" Ian questioned.

"bum, bada bum bum." Barley muttered to himself as he tapped to the rhythm. The legs seemed surprised, but then tapped the last two notes of the little song. The leg felt around before he touched Barley's sneaker. "That's right dad. It's me, Barley. Then the legs felt around again and hit Ian's sneaker. "Yeah. That's Ian."

"Hi, Dad." He breathed before he placed his hand on the shoe. The shoe then pulled away from him and felt around again until it hit (Y/N)'s shoe. "Yeah dad. I'm here too." (Y/N) chuckled.

Ian's face turned from happiness to sadness before he groaned, "I messed this whole thing up! Now he's gonna be legs forever!"

"No, not forever. The spell only lasts one day." Barley pointed out, "At sunset tomorrow, he'll disappear, and we'll never be able to bring him back again."

"Okay, okay, okay. That's 24 hours." (Y/N) established.

"Well, that doesn't give us much time..." Ian said as he picked up his phone, only to realize that it had been broken. He threw the phone onto the bed and set his watch for 24 hours. "Well, we'll just have to do the spell again."

"You mean you have to." (Y/N) said, "A person only can do magic if they have the gift, right Barley? And my little brother has the magic gift!"

"Okay, Okay. But I couldn't even finish the spell."

"Well you're gonna have plenty of time to practice." Barley butted in. "'Cause we have to find another Phoenix Gem." Once he realized what he said he let out a gasp. He ran out of the room and got the Quests of Yore cards. He flipped through a bunch of cards, before he found the two he was looking for.

"We'll start at the place where all quests begin. The Manticore's tavern." Barley announced before handing the cards to a very confused (Y/N) and Ian, "It's run by a fearless adventurer. She knows where to find any kind of gem, talisman, totem..."

"Barley, this is for a game." Ian scolded.

"Based on real life."

"How do we know this tavern still exists?" (Y/N) asked.

"It's there. Look my years of training have prepared me for this very moment." he said while flipping through more cards, "And I'm telling you this is the only way to find a Phoenix Gem."

Ian took the Phoenix Gem card from Barley's hand. "Trust me."

(Y/N) took a deep breath in before saying, "Fine. I'm in, but we are not taking my car. I just got it waxed."

Both (Y/N) and Barley looked at Ian for an answer before he sighed too. "Whatever it takes, I'm gonna meet my dad."

"You hear that dad? We're going on a quest!"

The four of them sneaked out the back door, before boarding Barley's purple van. He was struggling with the key, "Come on Guinevere."

"Uh, maybe we should just take the bus?" Ian suggested.

"She's fine." he insisted before he finally got the engine to start. He slid in a tape called 'Quest Mix' and they pulled out of the driveway and headed to the Manticore.
