Third POV

A newspaper boy rode by on a bike and threw a newspaper on the Lightfoot's front lawn. Ian's alarm rang and he popped out of bed. Slipping on his watch and his shoes he stood and grabbed his dad's old hoodie. He picked up his backpack and headed for the door, after glancing at his calendar which said 16th birthday and walked out with a puff of determination.

He walked down the stairs to see his mom exercising to a video. "I'm a mighty warrior!" she called out to nobody.

"H-hi mom." Ian called.

Suddenly Blazey, the family dragon came and crashed onto Ian, covering his face with kisses. "Oh! Balzey, down!" his sister (Y/N) called out to the dragon grabbing the spray bottle, "Bad dragon! Back to your lair!"

"Happy birthday, Mr. Adult Man." their mom cooed before she too kissed his cheek.

Ian started to wipe off the slobbery kisses as (Y/N) giggled from the kitchen. "Don't wipe off my kisses young man!" their mom scolded, before her attention turned to Ian's sweatshirt, "You're wearing your dad's sweatshirt."

"Oh. You know. Finally fits."

"Aw. my little chubby cheeks is all grown up!"

"Okay, okay! Mom, I gotta eat something before school."

"We don't have much food. Mom still has to go the grocery store." (Y/N) pointed out.

Ian opened the fridge revealing mini hot dogs covered in croissant dough. He reached for one before his sister slapped his hand, "Hands off mister! They are mine!"

"They are for neither of you." their mom butted in, "They are for Ian's party tonight."

"It's not a party, mom. It's just us."

"You could invite those kids from your science class. You said they seem pretty rockin'."

"I'm, uh, pretty sure I didn't say it like that. And besides, I don't even know them."

"Well, your birthday is a day to try new things. Be the new you." His mom continued as she started the blender, "Speaking of trying new things, did you sign up for driving practice.

"No!" Ian screamed over the blender, "No."

"I know you're a little scared to drive sweetie pie, but.."

"I'm not scared Mom. I'm gonna move Barley's game."

"Careful," (Y/N) warned, "You know how he gets when someone touches that board."

"Well, (Y/N), he's gotta learn how to clean up his toys." As soon as he sat down to eat his cereal two beefy arms scooped him up. "Doth my brother dare disrupt an active campaign?"

Barley lifted him up again causing Ian to knock his cereal off the table. "You know Ian." Barley announced, "In the days of old, a boy of 16 would have his strength tested in the swamps of despair."

"I'm not testing anything. Just let me go!" Ian strained out gasping for breath.

"Let him go." their mom commanded.

"Okay. But I know you're stronger than that." Barley attempted, "There's a mighty warrior inside of you. You just have to let him out. Right (Y/N)?"

Unfortunately (Y/N) was walking behind Barley as he scooped his arm around her neck, holding her in a headlock.

"Barley you stink! When's the last time you took a shower?"

"If you tried a little harder you actually could probably wiggle out of this."
