Seeing Dad Once Again // Onward Fanfic

~Chapter 17~

THIRD POV

The four walked from raven to raven, Barley leading them. The tall grass was tickling their sides as some rain poured down on them. Even through the weather, they kept going. They pushed on untill they saw a raven pointing down. The beak was pointed toward a circular copper plate. Barley set their dad on the ground and him and (Y/N) tried to lift the plate. The thing didn't move, but then Ian saw something. "Wait." he said resting his hand on his older sibling's shoulders.

He wiped the dust off of the plate so it shone. He turned so that the raven' beak was pointing to something on it's chest. (Y/N) got up from her spot on the ground, and touched the shape. It popped out of the raven and there was a picture on the back. "Huh, you see that dad?" Barley asked, "The apprentices have become masters."

"Oh shut up Barley." (Y/N) joked, "I've always been a master."

Ian dusted off the stone that (Y/N) found before saying, "It looks like water." Then the three all looked at each other before going to the small creek right next to them.

It lead into a dark cave, but then Ian started to get curious, "So, uh, what's the 'X' mean?"

"On a quest, an 'X' only means one thing." Barley explained, "We go to the end of the water, we'll find that Phoenix gem."

The four walked into the cave and it soon grew pitch black. Ian conjured up a fire spell and lit a large stick on fire for the four to use as a torch. When they lit the torch they heard a hissing. It turned out to be a pack of filthy unicorns. "Unicorns. Gross." Ian declared. 

"You can say that again."

Barely opened the cheese puff bag from earlier and shoved one into his mouth. Then he gave one to (Y/N). Then to Ian. The three continued to eat cheese puffs untill they came up to a picture of a wizard.

 "Woah."

"Cool."

"Guys, get moving, it's just a picture of a wizard." 

"You're a party pooper (Y/N)."

"Whatever."

"This water could go on for miles." Ian complained, "We don't have that kind of time."

"If we had something to float on,we could cast a velocity spell on it." Barely explained, "We could fly down the tunny like a magic jet ski."

"Well, there's not much to float on." Ian said as he looked around the cave.

"Remember on a quest you've got to use what you...." Barley stared before looking at the cheese puffs.

Ian readied his staff and pointed it toward the cheese puff, "Magmora Gantuan!" 

The cheese puff grew 10 times it's original size and the three and dad hopped on. "Acceloir!" Ian chanted before touching the staff to the cheese puff and make it fly down the river. "This is actually kinda cool." he chuckled, "So what other spells do you know?"

Barley's face lit up before he announced, "Brace yourself young mage. I know all there is to know of magic."

Laurel's green car sped down the highway as she pressed the call button on her phone and dialed Colt. As soon as he picked up she wasted no time in saying, "Colt, we know where the boys are going. We just need to get to them before they unleash the curse."

"The what?"

"Let's crush some curses!" The Manticore butted in, drinking an energy drink.

"The curse." Laurel described,  "The curse that protects the gem by turning into a rock dragon or something." 

"A what dragon?"

"I can't explain it. I just know we have to get to the boys fast."

"Oh we'll get to them fast." The Manticore said opening another energy drink, "We'll get to them so fast."

"Well I had 'em, but (Y/N), she just drove off, which I should've expected because she is an illegal street racer after all."

"SHE WHAT?!"

"What do you mean what?"

"My daughter would never break the law."

"You don't know about this? She's notorious."

"NO! I don't know about this! My perfect child is now breaking the law. This is just awesome. But I don't have time to worry about this now! I have to get to my kids!" 

Just as Laurel said that, a sprite hit the front window. This caused everyone to scream, and the car swerved off of the road. It violently crashed onto the grass. The Manticore got out of the car and squealed, "I think I stung my leg!"

"Laurel, what happened? What's going on?" Colt said, since the phone was still on. 

"You almost killed me lady!" The sprite complained from under the windshield wiper.

"A-are you okay?" Laurel asked, "Where did you come from?"

"You were in our flight path." A different sprite said as it and the group freed the one trapped in. 

"OH NO!" The Manticore yelped, "Our transport! How are we supposed to get to your kids now?"

Laurel gazed at the sprites that were flying away. "How do you feel about exercising those wings?"
