The Submaripper

Hiccup flies to the cove where he sees Elena sitting crosslegged on a rock "Drake's on Berk" he says walking over "So? He'd only tease me more than Astrid's doing already, that's what I get for being impulsive" Elena says adding something to her sketch "I can't figure it out" she mumbles "I was thinking a sphere with a door and window, but my brain refuses to work" "Gobber and Fishlegs saw it too" Hiccup says "Oh god, if Snotlout ever finds out" he mumbles realizing what his cousin would do "How's your design coming?" Elena asks getting up "Trying to figure something out with Gobber's old forge" he answers "Wait... if we combine your idea with mine..." Elena says and she trails off putting the papers on the ground "We could make the old forge a sphere, add a hatch, window made of death song amber" Hiccup says "And add a layer of Gronckle iron to make it dragon proof and done" Elena finishes making Hiccup chuckle "I can see why you flew off to think" "Let's draw it before we forget it" Elena says handing him another pencil. When Drake flies over the cove with Astrid they have to do a double take "Are they actually planning that doomed to fail stunt?" Drake asks making Astrid smile slightly "Yeah they are, but look, they're not planning to come back to Berk yet, there's a campfire in front of the hollowed out tree" she says "But we should've seen that coming" "I get that you're happy about it Astrid" Drake says as they fly on "But you shouldn't tease her, not while she's still unsure about this whole thing" he explains "That's why Gobber said to let it go after Hiccup flew off" Astrid mumbles "Now you get it".

"Done" Hiccup says making Elena stretch her arms and legs "Tomorrow we'll build it and test it" he says putting the plans is Toothless' saddle bag "Do we have to go back?" she asks tossing some more stick on the campfire "No, there's food right here". Midnight and Toothless are laying protectively around their riders, covering them with their wings when an unfamiliar dragon flies over, or a familiar one if it's one of the other riders. However when Windshear lands they move closer together "I'm just gonna camp here for tonight" Heather whispers and she sees the campfire, but she earns a low growl as bright blue and bright green eyes open to stare at her "Midnight, Toothless?" she asks walking over slowly, but she backs away quickly when the growling starts again "I'll just go to that side then".

The next morning Elena, Hiccup and Drake are at the forge before anyone else is up "You realize this can kill you both right?" Drake asks "We're well aware" Hiccup deadpans "But we need to get that dragon out of there" Elena adds earning a groan "I hate it when you're both right" Drake mumbles making the two smile at each other while he goes back to work. The first test is a failure, but they don't have any time to test it again "Are you sure both of you should go?" Astrid asks "There are three chains, we're faster if we both go" Elena says when they carefully lower the sphere into the water "I can get that part, but you're chieftess" Drake says "And I'm an excellent swimmer as well" she says putting on the helmet she's handed before diving in "I'll do two chains" Hiccup says "Three times if you need to send a dragon down" he reminds them before diving in too. Elena is a faster swimmer and they are done pretty quickly with breaking two chains, but it wakes up and Elena mentions that Hiccup has to go back, which he does, she sees the sphere being pulled up after a tornado nearly capsized their ship and she swims back after breaking the last chain. "Got you" Hiccup says and they look somewhat worried with all the shaking "Maybe we should've added another layer of Gronckle iron?" she asks when it shakes again "Too late to think about that right now" he points. For some reason they start sinking, but they can take a guess that something went horribly wrong "Hiccup, we have a problem" she says trying to open the hatch, but it's bend, resulting into it being stuck "Midnight!" she says seeing the two plasma blasts, but even the two Night Furies can't lift it up "Toothless, Midnight go" Hiccup says and he looks back hearing Elena fall down "It's stuck and water's leaking in from it" she says, making Hiccup realized it must be laying on of the side "Elena, there's no point in trying, opening it will only flood it faster" he says "It's our only way out" she says and she manages to open it a little more "Get out, now!" she says "Before I can't hold it open anymore", but with the hatch now further open more and more water floods in. "Elena let go!" Hiccup yells and he pulls her away from the hatch "We'll be fine, trust me" he says seeing the tears in her eyes "Why don't I ever listen to Drake?" she asks and she's pulled into a hug "Because if you did you wouldn't be you" he says. They have to take a deep breath when it's filled up and Elena mention for Midnight to go but she barely sees the Submaripper pick them up.

Astrid, Drake and Fishlegs are watching the water before they step back and realize that the dragon is free and not capsizing their ship "The sphere!" Drake says so they run over "How do we open it? It's dragon proof" Drake says, but Meatlug breaks the hatch with her tail. "Oh no" Astrid says after they get the two out, but Hiccup is coughing up water soon enough "Before you say I told you so" he starts when Astrid helps him sit up "Help Elena first". Midnight, remembering a previous adventure that had gone terribly wrong, walks over to her rider and drops herself on top of Elena with her full weight without warning making everyone but Drake wince at the thought, but it helps and Elena rolls to her side coughing. "Midnight I thought we agreed not to do that again" she says "What happened?" Hiccup asks "Viggo happened" Snotlout says making Berk's future chief try to get on Toothless, but Midnight dives into the water while Fishleg stops Hiccup "You two can barely stand" Drake says "We need to get back to Berk" "Bruised ribs, nothing I can't handle" Elena counters when her dragon comes back up and not a minute later Viggo's boat is sinking.

Gothi concludes they're both fine, but sends them to bed anyway "Elena do you have any idea what your absents is doing?" is the question she gets from her mother, when she arrives at Stoick's house. "Well it seems the previous chieftess can't even run a villge" Drake says "Because Elena lost all chances to be a kid three years ago when you should've taken over and not dump all the responsebility on her" he adds "Gods, now I wish I had drowned" Elena mumbles "Oh wait, I did" she says following Hiccup into the house "Bolt... you know what to do" Drake says "Wait she drowned?" Stoick asks "Yeah, Hiccup too, the plan was working for once when Viggo hit the mechanism with a giant stone builder, the sphere broke" Astrid says making the chief sigh "b-but they're safe now" Fishlegs says "I saw that Fishlegs" Stoick says "Get some sleep everyone" he adds before entering his house.
