One month later:
"Hey bubs! I know this is kind of cheesy or whatever but I brought rainbow flowers for you since this room is so fucking dull. They're artificial though so that they don't die." Mattia said as he walked into Kairi's hospital room, placing the flowers onto the small table by the boys bed.

He pulled up a chair up without even thinking about it and sitting down. I guess that's what happens when you've been doing the same thing for forty-five days in a row.

Mattia made sure to come every day, no matter what.

"It's going to be my birthday in a couple of days...can you believe it? The group said that do something crazy for it but the thing I'm most looking forward to is seeing you again." He said with a soft smile.

"The best present would be seeing you awake Kai....but it's no pressure bubs! I know you're doing your best and I'm so proud of you baby....I can't wait to see your face when I tell you that in person—or while you're awake....you're probably cringing right now."

Mattia grabbed ahold of Kairi's hand, a part of him—deep down, was waiting for the boy's hand to twitch or start clutching his hand back like how it goes in the movies.

But this was real life.

"You know I've been thinking, I've been telling you that I would bottom for forty-five days now and you're still not awake so that offer is now off the tab—" Mattia immediately noticed a change on the heart monitor and panicked, looking at Kairi in shock.

"Bubs you got to be kidding me?! It was just a joke you can—you can top me anytime! Fuck, I don't know, even—fucking....back shots in the shower?! Kairi I swear on my fucking life if you don't......" Mattia was obviously lying about the topping part but after a couple of seconds the heart monitor went back to normal.

He leaned back in his seat, not sure if he should be laughing or crying right now...so he just sat there in disbelief for a moment before looking around the room to check if somehow someone else had seen that. There is no fucking way that shit just happened.

"Of course you would do some shit like that.....can you hit someone while they're in a coma?" He paused as he contemplated it for a moment. "It's fine I'll just make you hit me back."

Mattia hit Kairi in the arm before grabbing the small boys wrist and making his limp hand smack his own face. Realistically, Kairi probably would've hit him in the balls but Mattia felt weird doing that when he was unconscious.

"Jeez you scared the shit out of me Kai."

He stared at his best friend for awhile, just admiring the boys looks before leaning forward and caressing his cheek with his hand. "Does this mean you can hear me?" Mattia asked softly.

"Even though you really did scare me...is it weird that it comforts me? Knowing that you can possibly hear everything I'm saying....

"it means that you're still with me."
