Two months.

Kairi doesn't remember anything two months prior to when the car accident happened.

Mattia knows this because the older boy had asked him if he was still dating Jenna during the five minutes they had to talk. Of course Mattia told him no. But that didn't change the fact that Kairi didn't know that Mattia had feelings for him.

Does Kairi even still have feelings for me?

The teen shook his head. He really had to stop being so pessimistic all the time because it was really starting to mess him up. Even if Kai didn't like him like that—it would be okay because at least he's alive and well.

That didn't stop Mattia from being nervous though.

It was now 6pm on the dot as Mattia made his way down the hallway and to his best friends hospital room were he would be staying for a couple more weeks. The pair had exactly two hours to talk about things before visiting hours were over.

As he approached the door, the young boy took a deep breath before grabbing onto the metal knob and gently opening the door, automatically making eye contact with Kairi and then his mom right afterwards.

"Hi." He greeted softly with a smile before walking into the white room and closing the door with the same gentleness from earlier.

"Hi Mattia!" Kairi's mom replied ecstatically with a bright smile, a stark contrast to her sons small smile and brisk wave towards his Italian best friend.

Mattia couldn't help but swallow nervously at Kairi's greeting—it didn't seem like the small boy really cared that he was here. Being pessimistic, again.

He shook it off. It was just his brain messing with him again. Mattia smile widened as he pulled up the same chair he always has and sat it in front of his friends bed; not failing to notice how Kairi immediately put his hands in his lap.

Mattia tried not to frown.

"Okay well—I'm sure you guys have a lot to talk about so I'll be leaving now." Kai's mom stated and her son was about to protest until the older woman gave him a stern, pointed look.

"I'll be outside if you guys need anything." She said softly before quickly exiting the room, leaving behind two awkward boys.

The uncomfortable silence was somehow worse this time around then it was the first.

Mattia awkwardly looked around the room before his eyes finally landed on his best friends face. The petite boy was looking down at his fumbling fingers with a blank look on his face and Mattia couldn't help but get even more nervous.

"Kairi."

The said boy instantly looked up, his expression was one of surprise at his friends tone. He sounded like a teacher who had just caught a student sleeping in class for the third time in a row.

And Mattia would admit that the sound of his booming voice had shocked him a little too...he hadn't meant to sound so harsh.

"Sorry." He whispered before clearing his throat. "I just—are you alright?"

He immediately noticed how Kairi's expression changed in a instant and immediately panicked. "I mean—obviously you aren't alright but...I mean....are you alright—with me?" He tried again before nibbling on his bottom lip.

Kairi stared at him for a few seconds too long before his eyes flickered to the younger's hands.

"Were you the one holding my hands while I was in a coma?" He asked, effectively ignoring Mattia's question.
