It was almost midnight

It was almost midnight. There was still a chatter of people going around, as the guest seemed in a merry mood. But to say Aziel was nervous would have been an understatement.

He felt like a balloon of emotions ranging from excitement to nervousness, ready to burst any moment now. For the last five minutes, he had checked the time around 15 times. Time seemed to drag at that moment and the hand of the clock seemed to be stuck at half-past eleven.

He felt a hand on his back. Turning around he came face to face with the boy who delivered a gift to him. He had a red Santa hat on his head and a horrible green elf sweater.

"You need to come with me. She is waiting for you," he said, tilting his head to the door.

Aziel wasn't sure about the stranger's intentions but something in him called out and asked him to follow him out. Still taking a precaution, he nodded his head and asked him to wait for him outside.

Running up to his room, he grabbed his phone and told Elijah he was leaving with someone. His brother gave him a confused look and asked him about where he was leaving for at this time of the night.

He quickly shook his head, dismissing his question and ran out of the door. Before Elijah could say anything, his brother was dragged away by a group of his friends.

As guided the blond boy was quietly waiting for him outside, in the chilling snow. He was silently gazing at the moon, basking in its shine.

Sensing Aziel's arrival he straightened up and smiled at him. "Follow me. It is just a walking distance."

They quickly fell into steps together, covering the distance between them and their destination. Trying to sate his curiosity, he fired a few questions his way.

"Who are you?"

The boy paused for a second and then smiled at him, pointing at the fake silly ears peeking out of his hat. "An elf."

Aziel huffed at his weird and nonsensical response. Trying once again, he voiced another question.

"She said she will come to my room at midnight. Why this change of plan?" Aziel asked, seeking an explanation.

This time the boy didn't bother stopping and hummed for a second. "There were too many people at your place. It was going to be difficult for her to sneak in without being noticed."

Aziel's eyebrows scrunched up and thoughts swirled around. "But she doesn't need to sneak in. She could always meet those people. What is wrong with that?"

The boy laughed in response and shook his head. "Trust me she can't meet people without creating havoc. You will understand soon because we are here."

Between their conversation, Aziel had not paid heed to where they were going. They were standing in front of the house he had earlier noticed this month when he was out in the market square. The music was blasting through the house, similar to many houses around and was decorated in bright lights all around.

They climbed up the wooden steps and the boy pushed the door open for him.

Smell of pine, hot chocolate and wood was the first thing he noticed when he entered the house. The music seemed to be sourced from the kitchen and a girl's feminine voice seemed to hum along.

Aziel's heart went crazy and he could hear it thundering in his ears. He quickly followed the feminine voice as all his focus seemed to be on that voice. He didn't notice the boy leaving through the door as he made his way towards her.

She was there, dressed in black dress topped with green and red knitted sweater, facing away from him. He felt his breath get knocked out of him at the familiarity of the figure.

Even though he hadn't seen the face yet but those curls at back were enough for him to recognize her. He felt like he was living a dream, a dream that is going to be over any moment now.

But unlike his prediction, she turned around and a smile adorned her cherry red lips.

"Aziel," she whispered. Her voice was so familiar yet so different. Hearing her say his name, pulled him out of his immobile state and he closed the distance between them.

When he was just a few inches away, he picked his hand up and carefully brought it close to her face. Scared that she might break or disappear.

When he felt her warm skin under his palm, his breath hitched and tears welled in his eyes. "Ella."
