"No, no, no! Avery, you're off-key!" Yelled Remy, stamping his foot impatiently. The backing vocals stopped singing quickly and Roman and Virgil looked at them all with a sigh.

Thomas stood in the doorway curiously. It was a duet song. Kind of. Basically, Lucifer and Gabriel would argue back and forth in a way that rhymed and matched to a certain beat.

Avery bowed her head sadly, swallowing nervously. "Sorry, sir." This was the fourth time they had stopped for someone in the backing choir being too pitchy or too deep. Virgil and Roman harmonised each other beautifully but, for some reason, the others couldn't match them.

"Alright, from the beginning. One, two, three!" Remy pressed 'restart' on his phone and the music started all other again.

Roman sang first, his voice low before Virgil fired back another lyric. They harmonised briefly before returning to singular lines.

Thomas zoned out. He'd heard this too many times and it was too fast for anyone to understand. He left the group, searching for some more friends to hang with. Remus was rehearsing a scene a kid named Fletcher, playing a role Thomas couldn't really recall. Deceit was doing Valerie's' make-up, so he was out. Thomas glanced around for Patton but found that he was in a heated discussion with Logan about costumes.

Terrence was ill that day and he had all the work with him. That meant nothing to do. Joan had decided to help a couple of their own friends with lines so they were also out of the choice. Thomas wandered up to the technician box, boredom making him scuff his feet along the tiles.

Fiddling with dials he'd learnt rather well, his phone buzzed. He checked it curiously. A text.

Ratman: hey thomas

Me: Hi Remus

Ratman: i need ur help rn

Me: ?

Ratman: could u set stage lights to red?

Ratman: like, misty red with a white spotlight on Janus

Me: Uh, sure????????

Ratman: turn off all the lights first pls

Me: On it

Ratman: thanks

Thomas tried not to question Remus's' instructions as he moved to the wall behind him. He pulled a lever and every light in the whole auditorium went out.

"What on earth?!" He heard Remy yell in surprise. Remus better not get him in trouble for this. Thomas's' phone vibrated again.

Ratman: set the lights

Thomas jumped forwards, turning the 'water vapour' dial to the max and waited a second before switching the lights to a romantic red, turning on the spotlight that had sat above Janus and Valerie.

The make-up artist stared around in confusion, screwing the lid onto a tub of some skin coloured paste. "Uhm," He said, cautiously, looking around. Half his face was of an octopus, with turquoise tentacles curling around his neck from behind a black collar.

Remus rushed into view dramatically, grinning like an idiot. Thomas glanced at the dashboard of blinking lights and knobs. He pressed a button and a spotlight appeared on Remus too. The actor gave a smirk that didn't have a trace of mockery.

"Janus! I have something to tell you!"

Let's be honest here, everyone caught onto this except Janus. The make-up artist tilted his head with a curious expression, despite being visibly confused. "...Wh-What?"

"You, you slippery snake," Remus wagged a finger with a wide grin, "Excite me sexually!"

Janus frowned. "...Ew, Remus. That's the weirdest thing you've ever said to me."

Remus dropped his arm, looked stunned and almost hurt.

Thomas chimed in over loudspeaker quickly, "He's trying to say that he really likes you!"

"I could have phrased it like that, yes, but my other statement was still correct!" Remus said, regaining his flourish.

Janus's' mouth dropped and the whole drama club began to whisper to each other - not in a gossipy way. It was more like a, 'look how adorable they are,' way.

"You... Like me?" Janus asked, sounding almost uncertain.

Remus beamed. "Obviously! Unless you don't like me back and, if you don't like me back, I want you to believe this was all a dare and Roman put me up to it!"

The two boys were silent for a moment, Janus opening and closing his mouth almost like a fish and Remus growing slightly awkward. Valerie slipped off into the wings.

"Janus, do you like Remus back?" Thomas said over the speaker again, feeling like some sort of digital Cupid.

"O-Of course I do..." Answered Janus, still sounding uncertain. "I'm just waiting for the part when Remus says it's a joke or repeats the punchline..."

Beaming, the inappropriate actor sauntered over to the make-up artist, wrapping a hand around his waist and knocking his feet from underneath him with a smooth kick. "The punchline is when you agree to be my boyfriend! Let's practice: Janus, would you like to go out with me until I drive you insane?"

Janus leaned up, catching Remus in a short, sudden and passionate kiss. "I'll still go out with you even when you've driven me insane." Remus sagged happily, grinning in a love-sick grin.

"Janus! If you hurt my brother, whether physically, emotionally or doing it too hard, I'll kill you!" Roman yelled from somewhere in the wings and the whole drama club burst into rapturous laughter.
