Patton sat, almost shaking with nerves as he fiddled with the straps of his dungarees. He glanced around the cafe, suddenly fearing he'd been stood up. He swallowed his anxieties, trying to ignore the sympathetic gaze of customers who could see this poor boy getting shown up.

"Would you like to order yet, mister?" Said a waitress, staring down at him sadly.

"N-No, he'll show up soon, he's always punctual!" Patton forced a laugh, glancing at the door to try to see if he could spot Logan. He couldn't help but see all the possibilities of getting stood up. Patton bit the bottom of his lip, almost hopeful as someone in dark clothes began to open the door.

No, it was just Virgil. His friend didn't seem to notice him and Patton could practically hear the screaming from the other boys' headphones. The emo spotted Patton and pulled off one ear. "P-Patton? What are you doing here, looking all fancy?"

The people who'd been watching the bubbly teen began to murmur amongst themselves sadly.

"O-Oh, I'm just waiting for Logan. He should be here soon, right?" His confidence left him as Virgil sighed empathetically. His friend sat opposite him, taking off his headphones but not bothering to pause the music that was screaming in whispers. Something about being victorious and glorious.

"Pat, if Logan doesn't show up, I will personally beat the hell out of him when we get back to school," Virgil promised. "And I will get Remus to help me."

Patton gasped. "Aw, Virgil, no! Violence is not the answer! I'm sure Logie is just late or something-"

The waitress walked over again, eyes filled with apprehension. "Would you like to order yet?"

Virgil began to tell her to go away when a familiar voice sounded from a door tucked behind the cafe's' counter. "Mother, did you know my watch is fifteen minutes slow? I was to meet someone here a while ago and he might have left!"

"Oh, yes, Lo, your dad went to the makers today to get it fixed. I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you!" The waitress said as Logan pushed open the door.

He looked, figuratively, like a mess despite his appearance being immaculate. Logan wore a navy sweater with the 'NASA' logo over a white, collared shirt and also wore blue jeans. His was fiddling with his watch on his wrist, dropping it on the counter, eyes wide as he glanced up to his mother frantically. "Do you know if he's left- Patton!" He gasped with sudden relief.

Logan abandoned his watch, rushing over as formerly as he could to the teenagers and his mother. "Patton, I am terribly sorry, a week ago my watch must've stopped working properly! My phone died soon after I called you, so I didn't know the time and it's just finished charging now!"

"That's fine, Logie!" Patton beamed, instantly relaxing. He sat up straight with good nerves, this time.

Logan opened his mouth to speak before noticing Virgil. The two made brief eye contact and Virgil went beet red, jumping out of the seat. "S-Sorry, Logan, I-I saw Patton sitting h-here alone so I went t-t-to talk to him-"

"Virgil, it's fine. You didn't know." Forgave Logan. "Truly, I should be the one apologizing. I should've noticed my watch wasn't working properly and this whole matter would've been avoided. Again, I am very sorry Patton."

Virgil waited for a second or two, before quickly hopping over to the counter, trying to pretend he wasn't embarrassed. The waitress, or Logan's' mother, as Patton assumed, also left them to it, pocketing Logan's' broken watch along the way.

"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, Patton. I'm surprised you showed up at all, let alone staying when I wasn't punctual." Logan apologised for the third time.

"It's fine, I knew you weren't going to stand me up and you must've just had a problem that delayed you!" Lied Patton with a laugh.

Logan tried very hard not to pale when Virgil mouthed, "I'm watching you, nerd," from the counter. The customers who'd been observing the scenario chuckled, turning away as the problem seemed over.

"You look... really nice, Patton." Logan blushed as he complimented the teenager opposite him.

Patton giggled. "Thanks, you too, Logie!"

Logan hesitated before smiling warmly. "So, I was wondering if you would like to go to the park after we've ordered and consumed the food or drink we want?"

"You're so cute, Logan!" Laughed Patton, booping Logan's' nose to watch the taller teen flush quickly. "Of course I would."

"Th-Then I suppose we order..." Logan mumbled, rubbing his nose as though he were still in shock. Patton giggled again.

.:*:.

Patton still held the strawberry ice cream in its' cone that he'd ordered at a small ice cream stand upon leaving the cafe. How he had managed to get ice cream in the middle of December was a complete mystery to both teenagers. He was hand in hand with Logan, swinging that arm happily.

Logan glanced down at him. "So have you managed to get all your Christmas shopping done?"

"Mhm! Have you?"

"I got the majority done in November and October, to prevent the cost rises."

Patton gasped. "That's such a smart thing to do, Lo! Is that why you always have loads of money during this season?"

"Patton, it's quite impolite to discuss money in a casual conversation, especially in public." Said Logan, glancing around slightly at the empty park.

"Oops!" Giggled Patton. "I guess no-money told me!"

Logan paused and then frowned. "I can't believe you sometimes."

The two teenagers slowed to a halt under a bare oak tree that sat on top of a small tree. They could see their whole town sprawling to the far distance from this point and in the cold air, it was beautiful. Patton suddenly found himself longing to see this view in summer or spring or fall when the trees would have leaves.

"So, Patton," Logan said, getting the others' attention. "This has been... an incredibly pleasant outing with you. W-Would you like to go out again sometime soon?" He asked, getting to the point quickly.

"Logan..." Patton frowned, speaking slowly. "Are you trying to ask me out on a second date?"

"That was the goal of this first meeting..."

Patton couldn't hide his smile as it spread quickly across his face. "Of course I will! As long as you're not late!" And he bounced into the arms of the taller teen, silently relieved that he didn't accidentally stick his ice cream into the back of Logan's' head and it didn't fall off the cone.

Now that would have been a tragedy!
