It's been months. But here. Content.
A week after the incident of the cancelled party, Virgil and Roman were not the same around each other. Neither would speak to the other and the drama club was far more boring. Thomas found himself walking home with Roman once again, as Virgil would storm off the moment rehearsals were over before the princely one could say anything to him. It was infuriating, in Thomas's' opinion, because Roman moped on and on about it, complaining how Virgil wouldn't let him apologise or would just plain out ignore him when he did. And Virgil was just as bad about it. He'd always text Thomas angrily in the middle of the night about Roman being as desperate as a puppy, complaining how Roman just needed to stop bothering him. Honestly, Virgil was a great friend but Thomas couldn't deny how spoilt and petty he could behave. The air was always tense on stage and in class, and the whole school had seemed to catch onto it.
"Hey, Thomas, right?" A cute boy, who looked like a jock, asked him in the locker room.
"That's me," Thomas replied hesitantly. "Can I help you?"
The guy gestured to Roman, who was across the room. "Did he and his boyfriend have a fight? The two aren't speaking to each other any more."
Thomas blinked. "Roman doesn't have a boyfriend..."
"The purple-haired emo. I thought he was his boyfriend."
"Who, Virgil?" Yelped Thomas in surprise. "They're not dating! They're literally just friends."
The jock seemed stunned. "Oh, didn't know that. Everyone thought they were, though, they were always hanging out and walking with each other. Anyway, not the point. Why have they fallen out?"
Thomas shrugged. "Roman was going to take Virgil to a party but it got cancelled and Roman didn't want to tell Virgil because he didn't want Virge to get annoyed, I guess. It's a long story but, basically, Roman avoided Virgil, accidentally pissed him off, then Virgil found out and is deliberately avoiding Roman in return because I guess he's upset about Roman not telling him."
"Huh," Went the jock thoughtfully. "Who's' party?"
"I don't know," The technician replied. "One of Roman's' sporty friends."
The guy frowned. "But Lance's' party hasn't been cancelled. Roman's going to it, what the hell is he on about?"
That confused Thomas. He frowned, tilting to look at Roman. "Huh. Weird."
.:*:.
"Roman!" Thomas called out, as he caught up with his best friend in cafeteria. "You good?"
The actor nodded. "I am. PE was a pain. Ooh, I saw you were chatting with Andrew in the locker rooms..." Roman smirked. "He's cute, right? You two a couple yet?"
Thomas kept his smile on his face. "Actually, I was going to ask you something." He stopped walking, losing the warm grin and staring at Roman seriously. "Why did you lie to Virgil about the party being cancelled? I heard it was still on."
"Wh-What?" Roman tried to play it off nervously. "What are you on about Thomas? Pfft, why would I lie to Virgil about some party, haha!" He lost the act. "Andrew told you, didn't he?"
With a small, sorry smirk, Thomas nodded. "'Fraid so. Why'd you lie, Roman? You know Virgil would've gone to that party with you, he's a good friend like that."
"Well, that's the thing," Roman sighed. "He's a friend. He sees us as no more and it just... It doesn't matter anyway..."
Thomas's' eyes widened. "Wait... Do you like Virgil? You have a crush on the emo overlord?!"
Roman went bright red and shushed him quickly. "Not so loud, Sanders, do you want the whole school to know?!"
"Sorry, I'm sorry, I just didn't expect it," Thomas replied, still surprised.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. I wouldn't have either." Roman sighed, in a way that seemed almost defeated, and sat down at a nearby table. "I was going to take him to the party and ask him out there but... While I was inviting him to go to the party with me, he called me his 'friend'." Te actor huffed sadly. "I guess it hurt more than it should've..."
Thomas looked at him sadly. "Well, you should tell him."
"Wha?"
"Tell Virgil. About how you feel," Thomas explained. "I'm sure he'll say yes!"
Roman laughed shortly. "In the mood he's in now? I'll be getting off lucky if he slaps me."
Thomas sighed pitifully. This was worse than earlier. How the hell was he supposed to help a lovesick prince get with an angry emo?
