A song that is loved

By the one and only;

Played so many times,

Without it, you're lonely.

But even good company is bothersome,

And a break is needed.

Perhaps it was even forgotten,

Simply just unheeded.

But that moment, a little while past,

When you hear that familiar tune,

And you remember, all over again,

Why it made you dance and swoon.

Caught up in nostalgia

And in the sweet melody;

And you catch little beats and words

That you'd missed before quite exceptionally.

For a short pause without a beating heart

Can cause the next beat

To make you feel very little pulse

And every feeling;

To make you notice the way

Your veins run deep;

The way your blood pumps,

Even when you sleep.

The beat of a heart,

The sound of a song,

The bark of a dog,

The voice of a loved one,

All of which when taken away

And abruptly given back

Make you glad for all the little things

You didn't notice, forgot, or thought you lacked.
