For over a century, I have lived in secret; hiding in the shadows, alone in the world. Until now. I am a vampire. And this is my story.

I shouldn't have come home. I know the risk. But I had no choice. I have to know them.

Adrianna Gilbert groaned as she rolled over to shut off her alarm. She rolled back onto her stomach, pulled the sheets back over her head, and closed her eyes. She just needed five more minutes. She was just about to drift off to sleep when she was jolted back awake by her twin sister's voice.

"Adri, get out of bed. We have school today!" Adrianna let out a loud groan before she threw the sheets off her body and sat up in bed. She climbed out of the bed and moved in front of the mirror on her dresser. She stared back at the reflection.

Ever since her parents died Adrianna thought that some of the light in her own eyes died along with them. Yes, she smiled at her friends daily and told those who asked that she was "fine" but she knew a piece of her happiness died with her parents.

That piece of her was buried with them in the cemetery and she doubt it would ever come back.

Adrianna closed her eyes before sighing and reopening them. She ran her fingers through her hair, licking her lips before smiling at her reflection.

"I'm Adrianna Gilbert and I'm fine." She sighed one last time before moving to her closet. She picked out a simple red top with black skinny jeans and her leather jacket. She also grabbed her black converse and placed them at the foot of the bed.

Before getting dressed she walked to the bathroom that she shared with both siblings. Her brother Jeremy was already there brushing his teeth. He looked at his sister briefly before turning away again.

"Good morning to you too." Adrianna said with a roll of her eyes.

His rudeness didn't come as a surprise to her anymore after a summer filled with it. After their parents died his behavior did a complete 180 and he started smoking and doing drugs. He never listened or took advice from his sisters and while Elena continued to hover Adrianna had all but given up.

Adrianna brushed her teeth and washed her face before walking back to her room to get dressed. After getting dressed she stood in front of the mirror and brushed out her hair. When she was satisfied she pulled out her makeup bags and started on her makeup. She decided to go light with her signature red lips. She finished after a few minutes and grabbed her phone and backpack before walking out of the room, closing the door behind her.

She walked a little down the hall to her sister's door. The door was opened and she saw Elena sitting on the windowsill, writing in her diary. Again.
