Mystic Falls 1864

Damon Salvatore laid still on the ground as Katherine Pierce leaned over him with a smile. "Just lay here and everything will be fine. Do you understand?"

Damon nodded and watched as the smile on Katherine's face widened. She leaned down and gave him a long kiss before pulling away at the sound of a horse drawn carriage getting closer to them.

"Show time." She muttered before her amused expression gave way to a distraught one. Katherine turned toward the carriage and started shouting as it got closer. "Please! Please, help us."

Damon marveled at how convincing she sounded knowing that, if he was a passenger of that carriage, he would have definitely believed her to be in danger.

Katherine moved from over him and ran towards the now stopped carriage. "Please, my husband, he's been hurt! Please help him!" A man walked over to Damon and leaned over him, seemingly checking his status. Damon made his breathing slow and a little erratic so as to sell the story that he was hurt.

"What are you doing out here in the middle of the night? It's not safe." He heard another man say.

"No. No, sir. It's not safe." Katherine seemed to have dropped her farce because seconds later the man was screaming. The man leaning over Damon turned away to look behind him and Damon just squeezed his eyes shut as he tried to block out the sound of the man screaming for his life.

I want this.

I love Katherine. I want to be with her forever.

I must get used to this.

Damon chanted those phrases over and over in his head until the screaming was over.

"And that's how it's done." Katherine called with satisfaction in her voice. Damon cautiously got up and looked at the two dead bodies in the road.

"What happens to the bodies?"

"Well, I'll take them into the woods and the other animals will finish them off." She answered as if this was the most obvious thing to have been done. "Are you sure you're ready for this?"

Damon focused on her eyes as he frantically nodded. He wanted this more than anything. "I'm ready. I want you to turn me."

Katherine seemed to smile at this. "When it's time." She began and then a smirk grew across her lips. "Kiss me."

At this request Damon pulled out his handkerchief from his jacket pocket with a flourish, ready to wipe the blood from her lips. As he moved to do so, however, Katherine grabbed his hand to stop him and moved even closer.
