Chapter 39: Broken

"Gah!" You woke up from that strange nightmare... but soon you realized that someone was with you too. "Are you ok? You started shaking... S-So I was getting worried..." Shuichi said as he placed his hand on your shoulder. "Oh... I just have some nightmare... It's alright, Shuichi." You said as you gripped tightly into your bed sheet.

The detective frowned, and pull you into a hug. You hugged back hesitantly. It's not like everyday you get to hug someone... "Thank you... Shuichi... for always being there..." You said as Shuichi pulls out. "I must thank you first, (Y/N)... you were there for me when Kaede's gone... and I'm grateful about it..." Shuichi said. You assume that he's talking about Kaede when she's in the killing game. Since this Kaede is rude...

"Hey detective boy! Stop feeling bad about Kaede! She definitely don't want to see you sad! So just smile!" You said as Shuichi looked at you blankly. "Um... If not for Kaede, then smile for me!" You tried to encourage. "For... you...?" "Well, we're all in here, alive with you, so I want to encourage you the best way I can! I want to help!" You said with a smile as Shuichi smiles back.

"Yeah... well... we should thank each other..." You said as Shuichi nodded. "I've felt better, thanks." You said, and both of you exchanged smiles, and for a moment, it was a little quiet. "Well... we should go somewhere to clear our mind..." Shuichi suggested as you nods.

You two then walked to the courtyard, since you liked that place, and it's peaceful anyway. You two sat on a bench, and begin to look at the sky. For a brief moment, you look at the entrance of the courtyard, and you swore you could've seen someone...

What is it? Who are they?! Why did they go away?!

That alarmed you, but you couldn't just chase after them. What if they just received something important, so they have to go? You decide to ignore about it, and looked at Shuichi again. "So... is there anything specific you wanted to do?" You asked as Shuichi stayed silent. "Doing nothing, huh... you reminds me of that Ultimate Academy a lot... we didn't have any school, classes, or anything to play... we just had ourselves, friends... and always thinking about how to get out of there..." You commented.

"Yeah... those isn't the very peaceful times... but... we tried... we once had a fun time..." Shuichi said, and looked ti the ground. "It was cool to have a optimistic person like you around, (Y/N)." Shuichi said, holding up your hand. "R-Really? Then I thought I was a bit annoying, haha..." You joked and looked away from the boy. It seems like you had ignored the kiss before... but of course, there's no way Shuichi could. He couldn't forget any action that you do.

Should I just tell her now...? No... I should wait... wait until the time is right...

Shuichi thought to himself, and look at you with his warm smile. It's a fine afternoon, just the two of you... being together. Until, a raindrop fell on your shoulder. "Eh...?" You asked as you noticed the sky has gone darker, and rainclouds covering the bright dawn sky. And one drop turned into many, and all of them fell down at the same time.

"It's raining!" Shuichi panicked, and got ip from the bench. The two of you ran to a cover, to cover from raining. "Jeez, the dormitories is way over there! How are we supposed to make it without soaking ourselves?" You questioned in an annoyed tone. Well... I guess we either risk it, or just wait until the rain stops..." Shuichi sighed.

"Do you two need an umbrella?" A male voice asked as you looked up to him. "Rantaro?" You suddenly blurted out without noticing. "D-Do I look like Rantaro that much?" You realize that it was Maruchi... how stupid of you... "A-Ah... sorry... it was just... Rantaro just..." You trailed off as Maruchi sighs. "It's alright, I'm sure he'd do fine!" Maruchi said as you nodded.

"Anyway, here, take my umbrella, it's big enough to fit you both." Maruchi said as he handed you his blue with purple stripes umbrella. "Wait, what about you?" You asked as Maruchi thinks about it. "It'd be fine if I got sick, better than 2 people got sick, y'know?" Maruchi chuckled. "What about you come with us?" You offered as Maruchi shook his head. "I'm good, I'm healthy, so I wouldn't get inflected by rain that easy!" The boy continued on as you crosses your arms.

"Are you going to take it? My arm is dying slowly." The multi talent boy said as you shook your head slowly. "Thank you, but we-" Before you could even finish, Shuichi took the umbrella for you. "Thank you Maruchi, we'll return it tomorrow." Shuichi said as he pulled you with him. "Sh-Shuichi! What about Maru? If he catch a cold, it's your fault!" You pouts as Shuichi nodded with a blank face.

"Hey, is something wrong?" You asked as the boy shook his head. "Nothing, I mean, if Maruchi insist, then I think we should take it, it's not our fault if he's going yo get sick..." The detective said as you furrowed your eye brows. Shuichi wouldn't said that if you guys were in the Killing Game... he'd try to reject, or excuse... but now, he only thinks for himself. You frowned as you see how much Shuichi changed.

"Well... at least we're here now..." You said as you two reaches the dorm you both share. You and Shuichi walks in, Shuichi closed the umbrella, and dropped the raindrops water outside, and put the blue stripes purple in the room's corner. You climbed to your bed, and find yourself hugging the checkered scarf that Kokichi gave you. "You like that scarf really much... huh..." Shuichi said as you snapped out of your thoughts. "Ah... it was just... I like to hug the stuff next to me." You explained as you lay on your bed.
