This Is Awkward

I left the front doors open a crack as I slipped out.

I jogged down the path and down the drawbridge over the hot flames from below in the abyss.

The flames were burning red and hot and moved as if they had a mind of their own.

The flames mesmerized me, drawing me to want to get close to them, to let them lick at my skin.

I shook my head to clear my fuzzy mind and continued forward.

I needed to get clear of the sight of any window before I was caught by Luke or Calum.

All around me was flames and more flames wanting to eat at my skin, to burn me alive.

It took all the strength I had to keep moving forward, to ignore the pull of the flames.

I rounded a bend in the path and slowed to a fast walk.

I think I was far enough to be clear from being caught.

I knew I had at least an hour before someone went to check on me and find me gone, so I have to move quickly.

I came near the path which disappeared past a giant stone wall.

I passed the wall and entered a throng of people with black eyes.

Nobody gave me a second glance.

I had a feeling that these were the types of people who could give less than two shits about others. Only cared about themselves.

Vain.

I pulled the hood lower over my face, pushed my hands into the pockets, and joined the flow of demons.

The smell of sulphur overpowered my senses and clouded my mind.

Keeping with the flow of people, I followed the main path, hoping it would take me to where I needed.

If it wasn't full of red hot flames and dark clouds overhead, this place would be adorable.

Full of shops along the cobbler stone path. As I looked a little closer, the shops started to scare me.

Humans as slaves, shops full of dark magic, and different disturbing things.

I kept my eyes on my black converse and continued forward, scared of the shops and the people around me.

I was scared they would notice that I wasn't a demon. Notice that I have normal colored eyes and not black as kohl eyes.

As I kept walking the people became less and less and the shops disappeared.

The flames weren't as thick here and the dark sky started opening up into something lighter.

The stone path turned to dirt and country rolling hills surrounded me on both sides.

I kept following path, still hoping it was the right way and half just being thankful it wasn't flames and dark skies.

A feeling of lightness filled me and I felt better.

Keeping my hood on, I lifted my head to look ahead instead of my shoes.

I stopped for a moment and lifted my face to the now blue sky.

There was no sun, but it was light outside.

I didn't understand how that's possible, but it's hell, what should I expect?

I took a deep breath and continued on my way.

A half hour later, I came to the end of the dirt path. It then became another cobbler stone path.

People started coming into view and so did shops.

I put my head down and avoided eye contact.

Just like over by Luke's castle in the village, it looks the same here, but I like this better.

Here, the sky is blue, the people are talking and laughing, not being silent and tense looking.

The shops were good too.

There are shops for clothes, books, and other cool things. A greenhouse came into view as so did a vegetable stand and a flower stand.

There are no flames or bad feelings: I like it.

I snuck a glance at a few people and noticed that most were smiling and had normal colored eyes.

Just like over at Luke's, I followed the main path in hope it take me where I want to go.

It also helped that I could see the giant beautiful castle not to far from here.

As I walked through the large throng of people, the whispers started.

I could feel all eyes on me and people started to move to leave a path for me to walk.

Confused, I didn't know why they would do this.

Do they recognize me?

Do they just know that I'm not from here?

Was it what I'm wearing? My body language? They way I'm walking with my head down?

I ignored it and reached the large front double doors of the castle within an hour.

Two guards in uniforms stood on either side of the doors.

It was a little creepy since their uniform is black skinny jeans, black long sleeve shirt, and a mask that shows nothing except for their eyes.

Not a usual guard uniform, but they are demons...

"Miss Bailey," The guard on the right said.

His voice was deep and gruff and he was tall and full of muscle.

I raised my head in surprise.

I opened my mouth to ask how he knew who I was, but the large door in front of me creaks open, catching my attention.

My hood fell off, revealing my face just as a head of bright red hair appeared in front of me.

He gasped.

His green eyes lightened at the sight of me.

"Bailey..."
