Life in Sicily was nothing like Chicago. Everything felt like it was a decade behind. I stayed with Jaehyun for a few days where we mostly just trained together and occasionally he'd take me out to explore the beautiful city. From the crack of dawn to dusk, we were out in the courtyard, battling things out. Sometimes, other soldiers and instructors would stand around and watch as we dueled. We both beat each other an even amount of time and we trained until our fingers blistered and hands were sore from holding the spears."I think you're about to dethrone me as Head Commanding officer," he said, tossing me a water bottle.
"Mafia heiress and Head Military Commander... name a better duo"
"Sehun the mechanic and Taemin the fish seller might be a better duo," he said, cleaning up the spears.
"You're right," I laughed, wiping my sweat with my arm, "so you coming home with me tomorrow?"
"Yeah, I got someone to fill in for my absence starting tomorrow. So what's our plan when we go home?"
"Well Dad is getting out in a few days so I think we should go visit our lovely home and then pick him up from prison, tell him everything and see what he thinks"
"Have you talked to him?"
"I visited him once a few months ago. Did you know that he wasn't the one who sent you away?"
"What do you mean?"
"Hyunjin did"
"Wait what?"
"Yeah, it was Hyunjin's idea to send you and Joonho oppa away"
"Wow. I did not see that coming. So should we kill him too?"
"I told him if I saw him again, I'd kill him but I don't know if I can"
"You always had a soft spot for him, huh?"
"The father I always wanted. Or so I thought" I concluded.
"Well it's you and me now. We don't need the failed wretchedness of our parents anymore. You know, I used slip small amounts of whatever chemicals we had under the kitchen sink into Dad's coffee hoping that it would kill him one day. Never did"
"And here I am thinking I'm the poster child for least grateful offspring"
"Yeah I got you beat, kid" he laughed.
"Well you two seem like a volatile combination" A deep, raspy voice approached from beside us. A man presented himself before us. He didn't seem much older than me. Like everyone else in this military camp, he looked ashened from a day of hardwork with his heavy blue eyes being the only thing of color on his face, "you gonna introduce me to this lovely lady?"
Jaehyun released a happy grin, "Calvin, meet my sister, Emrie. Em, this is Calvin, my prodigy"
"Your successor you mean" he corrected, "nice to meet you" he took my hand and kissed the back of it.
"Well aren't you a gentleman" I remarked.
"I now see why Jae lacks any good looks whatsoever, you took it all" he laughed.
"Careful, Calv. She bites" Jae joked.
"It's true. I do"
"Well any family of Jaehyun Fey is a family of mine" he nodded respectfully, "what brings you to our humble abode?"
"I'm here to steal my brother back"
"Hobbes, you're leaving me?" He looked at Jae almost instantly.
