lemon and pinewood.

He pulled up my apartment in his usual blue Mustang, which was way too fancy to be residing in a dirty city. A ring at the door snapped me out of my thoughts. I straightened out the bottom half of my skirt and answered it. There he stood, casually dressed with a potted plant in his hands.

"A plant? Really?"

"Well flowers and bouquets die after like five minutes so I bought you a cactus instead"

"How romantic," I said sarcastically, taking the pot in my hands and placing it on the table beside the door.

"Shall we?" He jutted his elbow out as I hooked my arm in his. "You know, I'm not this romantic for just anyone"

"And what makes me so different?"

"You resist me. You're a challenge and you should know I don't lose challenges"

"Well there's a first time for everything," I said. He laughed a shy laugh and opened the car door for me, gesturing me in. The car smelled of lemon and pinewood and not a speck of dirt or dust laid on the dashboard. Luke seemed like the type of guy who prioritized his car over his house. Typical man.

"So what do you have planned for our one and only date?" I asked as he started the car with a loud roar.

"And ruin the surprise? You'll see when we get there"

"And how far is 'there'?"

"Are you always this annoying?" He joked.

"Yeah"

After a short twenty-minute drive out of the city, we approached a desolate clearing to a quiet lake with nothing but a wooden picnic table. "A big city guy plans a date in the woods, huh?"

"Maybe I can be spontaneous too" he laughed, laying an orange and yellow table cloth over the wooden surface and placing a plastic bag full of food in the center.

"Well, aren't you just full of surprises? Can't believe you made dinner too"

"Told you, I'm not as bad as I seem" he pulled out the food, separating it into two plates. "So what do you like to do? During your free time. I mean when you not turning down men"

"You make me sound like a spinster"

"You kind of are. If you turned me down, how ugly were the other guys?"

"Not ugly at all"

"So there were other guys" he pushed.

"You're not the only hotshot here" I laughed.

"Well, I'm not surprised. What did this ineligible bachelor do?"

"Nothing"

"So you turned him down because you felt like it?"

"I'm a heartbreaker, what can I say?" I shrugged, taking a fork in my hand.

"You're an interesting person, Grey"

"Thank you"

"So what do you do then? Any hobbies?"
