1. Weird Jily Fanfics (Nan)

Heyyyyy, Nan here!
Yup, it's moi, the awesome, and I present to you, the first rant of... Well, Our Book of Rants. So here goes-

Rant # 1

Weird Jily Fanfics

Now, most of you know, that I am I huge potterhead (my private account makes it obvious- shameless self promotion, once gain-), and it kills me each time I happen to chance upon an extremely HORRIBLE JILY FANFIC.

Well, I can be kind of quick to judge, seeing as I keep my level quite high. The first Jily fanfic I read was Flower and Prongs (and the rest) by teenage.tragedy on fanfiction.net, and so that sets the bar real high.

So point number 1-
(Drum roll please)

#1 Please remember that they're (mostly) in 7th Year. It is not all sunshine and rainbows. They have their NEWTs coming up, James will not take Lily to Hogsmeade the previous day.

#2 Did Voldemort vanish into thin air? Why are we ignoring him? James and Lily are supposed to face him THRICE before their death. Please, keep the suspense up.

#3 Troublemaker is NOT equal to player. James Potter is a troublemaker, that doesn't mean he keeps his pants down. For Merlin's sake! He's in love with Lily! He's not sleeping with anyone else! Sirius, yes, he's a player. He may get a girl somewhere down the line, but he's chill, not too serious (see what I did there)...

#4 SIRIUS AND REMUS ARE NOT GAY!!!! I'm all for LGBT rights and all, but with all due respect, Remus is not bisexual, that he'd fall in love with Sirius and marry Tonks. And Sirius? Gay? Really?
No.
Just... No.

#5 Lily and Petunia: See, I know they haven't exactly been the best sisters, but Petunia has a heart. She does not hate Lily, or why would she have protected Harry? So even though they might fight a lot, but then again, when do siblings not? (I wouldn't know, I don't have any, but hey, whatever)
But they love each other- deep, deep down.

#6! DO NOT NEGLECT THE PETER. This feels very odd for me to write, because in Ken Follett's book, The Fall Of Giants, this guy, Billy calls his d*ck "Peter". Hilarious, I know.
Ya, so- my point- Peter Pettigrew is a Marauder. He is one of James's best friends! He might follow them like a lost puppy, but he is not a dawdling fool! He's a bit like Neville at first, yes, (not quite as awesome, but yeah), and also pulls pranks, acts awesome and gets girls.
Maybe not the getting girls bit.

#7 Hogwarts does not equal to Clichéd American High School. THERE IS NO QUEEN BEE, LILY IS NOT AN INTROVERTED NERD, JAMES IS NOT A PLAYER!
Hogwarts is Hogwarts. Everyone is friends with everyone. Except Slytherins. Slytherins are only friends with Slytherins.

#8 Show Snape some love, guys (or gals, eh)! Don't hate on Snape! However greasy he is! Sure he might have said something unforgivable, but eh, rookie mistake, cut him some slack! Honestly, while developing characters, put yourself in their shoes- however slimy they are- and understand the psychology of the character. He's going through a tough time as well! Imagine the pressure he's going through, trying to impress his friends, without ruining his friendship with Lily! And admit it, guys are always mean to girls when they're in groups. Especially when their ego is at stake.

#9 Pay attention to the timeline. They graduate in 1977. That means they were born in late '59- '60. That means they did not have smart phones and yeah. It was a different era. 'Twas Rock n Roll, babe.

#10 Take it Easy! (Eagles reference- any Eagles fans here? Any?)
It takes Lily more than a month or two to fall in love with James. Pay more attention to the slow and steady development from 'I hate his guts' to 'he seems tolerable' to, finally, 'I think I might have a crush on him'. Don't make them rush into love- like slow down boy!

By this rant, I mean no harm to any readers or fanficcers- my word, deal with it- fanfiction is to express one's interpretation of a story. But hey it just annoys me sometimes, but that may be a singular opinion.

And that's what you missed on glee!
