Months has passed, Kayden has a restraining order. He's not allowed anywhere near me but, it's still hard to sleep at night because I never know when he will appear. Nothing serious has happened over the few months, Melissa no longer pops up. She's gone the moment Cameron is gone.
I stood out on the balcony and look over at what was Cameron's balcony. His plants withered.
I will be lying if I tell you I don't search for him in crowds, hoping I will spot him one day.
"Are you ready to go?" Dad holds onto my duffel bag, "yeah Dad." I closed the doors and double checked that I had lock the doors.
It's game season and I will be going over to California over the weekend for Monday's game. I will be there for about 4 days before coming back here to North Carolina. Dad wouldn't be attending the games as he doesn't want the attention to be on him.
Hopefully one day, I will get him to change his mind.
I got into the car and look back at Axel to make sure he has fasten his seatbelt. "I haven't seen Cameron in awhile, will he be in California too?" Dad ask as he drives off.
I look at the side mirror and watch as my apartment get further away, "yeah he will be there too." I lied.
Where have you gone to? Are you doing well? What are you doing?
I ask everyday. There's no way I can call him either. He disappeared.
"Have fun," Dad says with a soft smile on his face. "Work hard." He then added, I smiled and nodded my head. Dad never pushes me hard, but because he's such a great player that everyone remembers and loves.
I aim to be as great as he is.
"Bye Dad," I wave goodbye. I open the back seat and kiss Axel on the forehead, "bye Axel."
I close the door and then walk into the airport, "your family didn't send you?" Tania, one of my teammates raise her eyebrows at me.
"Uh yeah, they don't really watch me play." I stutter out a lie, Tania nods her head, "same."
"Alexis right? One of the best players." Tania ask, I shake my head in response. "Just Alexis," Tania smiles at my reply. "You're humble."
Tania and I got to know more of each other as the rest shows up with their families.
Tania's family doesn't care that she plays basketball, or the fact that she got into Duke. Her friends is all she got.
We got onto the plane and my seat is the window seat, Tania is seating next to me with her headphones in, ready to sleep.
I shut my eyes and lean back in my chair.
I hope to see you in my dreams.
I can't wait to roam around California, though it is very hot right now. I put my bag down on the bed and get my necessary stuff to go out. We have some time till 9pm, some girls are stocking on liquor but no, no liquor for me this week.
I went to Santa Monica Pier alone. I shouldn't really be alone but I want to. It's nice to have sometime to myself.
I walk along the pier, not entering any stores. And I search the crowds like I do every time I am out. I can't lie to myself. I do it because I hope that he will be in this crowd, somewhere. I will see those blue eyes of his again.
I then looked down at my shoes and let out a sigh, why am I like this? He was just my neighbour, my classmate.
It was just a kiss.
I turn around, deciding to go down to the beach.
I spotted a boy with light brown hair, just like Cameron's. My heart skips a beat, why do I keep searching for him?
I went back to the hotel after a few hours, I decided to distract myself, bought my family and friends stuff that they can use. Bought a shirt that says fuck you! for Nate, hahah I think he will love it.
"Hey, where were you?" Olivia ask.
"The pier," I replied and sat on the bed. "Tiring huh?" Olivia takes out a small bag from her luggage.
"Face masks?" She held up the sheets, I chuckled, "okay let me shower first."
Olivia and I lay down on her bed, staring up at the ceiling as Keeping Up with The Kardashians play in the background.
"Remember that day," Olivia starts, "that shooting, we held each other so tight." Olivia murmurs.
I nod my head, "I am glad we make it out alive."
"I thought we were going to die," Olivia let out a heavy sigh. "It's okay, we're here living." I turn to look at her with a smile, "pizza?" Olivia suggests.
"Okay."
I walk beside Tania as we walk into the stadium where we will be training today.
"Oh look, it's the UCLA boys." Olivia comes beside me, her eyes widen at the sight of them.
"Wasn't that guy from our school?"
And I froze, my eyes search for that light brown hair and blue eyes.
Cameron Fields.
Here you are.
