The four Hufflepuffs aren't entirely the most likely of friends. They have similar interests though their personalities are certainly vast. That evening, the four of them decided to stay in and not do anything particularly thrilling.
David and Holly sat on the floor, a small table in the middle of them as they played an intense game of wizards chess. Brie was only lending half of her attention, occasionally glancing up from her book as the practiced unknown and unique dueling spells. As for Mary-Anne... well, Mary-Anne was very content with resting her head on Bries shoulder as she slept. Brie was so wrapped up in the two things, she didn't really mind as much as she usually would have.
Holly bit at the nail of her thumb. She was both completely anxious and totally calm at the same time. The warmth and atmosphere of the Hufflepuff common room relaxed her, but the fear of who was going to win this match of wizards chess was stressing her out.
Holly hated to lose. As do most people; but Holly was an incredibly competitive person. She had never lost a game of wizards chess in her life. But David had been practicing since the last time they played and he was catching up to her quickly. David made his move and Holly focused in. She looked at the table, looking for a strategy.
She found one quickly. A horrible mistake on David's part. She moved her piece and slowly glanced up at him
"Checkmate." She whispers excitingly. David's eyes widened before they snapped down to the table. They both watch as one of Holly's pieces, attacks one of David's few pieces that remained on the board. Holly couldn't help but marvel at the magic. It was spectacular.
"What? No! I- I was winning!" David shouts, hovering his hand over the board as he went through the motions of our turns. Mary-Anne suddenly groans, picking her head up off of Bries shoulder.
"What the bloody hell is all the yelling for?" Mary-Anne grumbles.
"Or were you?" Holly asked, quirking an eyebrow as they ignored Mary-Anne's complaint. David sighed loudly. In return, Holly squealed and got up, doing a celebratory happy dance. She shook her thang as Brie and David looked up at her amusedly. Mary-Anne was still confused. Suddenly Holly's gaze fell onto a clock in the room. She drew in a breath through clenched teeth. "Is that the time?!" She stresses. David bends his head to look.
"I don't see why not, Wizards Chess takes awhile." He comments.
"Why? Got somewhere else to be?" Brie asked jokingly. Holly moved to the side of the couch, moving around her fellow Hufflepuff Nancy and a few other of the Hufflepuffs walking about to get to her pack. She slung it on her shoulder and looked down at them.
"Actually, yes." She says. They all looked up at her.
"Where could you possibly be going?" Brie asked suspiciously. Holly sighed.
"You know my mum. If she checks in and I'm not getting perfect marks, she's going to send another bloody howler... So... I found a tutor. We're going to meet up and study," Holly explains, feeling embarrassed. David goes to open his mouth but she interrupts him. "Don't worry about it, honestly. I just need a few bits of help with things. Then I'll be tip-top. Anything to get my mum off my back." Holly says with a shrug before racing out of the common room before they ask anymore questions.
Holly walked out of the basement and stopped in front of the staircases. She glowers at them.
"We meet again- she devil!" Holly shouts out loud, feeling lucky no one was in the vicinity. She whines loudly before climbing up the steps. Holly continued to whine every time she had to wait, or if they moved too fast, or the fact that she had to deal with this until the seventh floor.
