the city of los volmos was known for being large, holding in a welcoming atmosphere for its citizens.

but all cities have that one area and at a distance, passing by the beautiful lights and swarm of happy people were deserted shambles, a place so sketchy crime lurked in every corner. a place the blacks called home.

the area wasn't always like this, it used to be populated and the now defunked facilities proved it. there was a broken down hospital where both magnus and his sister resided in. for the most part, it wasn't in best condition but it had a roof and beds to sleep on so at their lowest point, the two were forced into calling it home.

turning the nob, magnus black entered the abandoned building. he took his cloak off and hung it on the coat rack, doing the same with his gloves and mask- setting it on the little table next to the door.

he walked through the hall, trying his best to be quiet for he knew his sister was probably sound asleep in her bedroom.
but when he poked his head in through the doorframe, she wasn't in bed.

magnus gasped, entering and checking every corner. "emily?" he knocked on the bathroom door in the bedroom but failing at getting a reply, he figured out she wasn't here.

he grabbed his black coat that lay neatly on the couch ready to go out and find her.

he slipped it on, mentally blaming himself for leaving her so long however right as he stepped foot in the hallway. he heard the door open.

the wavy haired girl came into the dark kitchen, holding something in her hand but when she heard someone run in she quickly put it behind her back turning to see a smiling magnus.

she smiled back "big brother," she happily said. "you're home."

"it's good to be back." he said and without hesitation he brought her into a hug. he never showed it, but the boy had a soft spot for his only loved one. she was all he had and everything he did was for her. "how have you been holding up?" he asked, the warm embrace making him smile more even though she wouldn't hug back.

"f-fine," she replied. "but where have you been?"

"that doesn't matter," magnus said pulling away with his hands still on her shoulder. "the important thing is that im here."

"but it does matter!" emily yelled "you're still looking for a corecell aren't you? it's dangerous! you push yourself too much for me!"

"i have nillious with me, it's fine." he sighed. her worry aggravated him, it's like she didn't believe in him. "what's that you have behind your back anyway?"

"..."
that question made her quiet. she looked to her side, embarrased and ashamed. magnus picked that up.

"emily..?" he said in a more serious tone. "what do you have?"

the younger girl sighed and pulled out what she had been hiding: a loaf of bread.

at the sight of this, he clicked his tounge. "you've been begging again."

"i'm sorry magnus! i know you don't like it when i do but i couldn't help it..!" she yelled. "i was hungry, and you were gone for 3 days"

"i know that but asking for money just isn't right!" magnus was against emily's antics, they weren't homeless! they were over that and though the conditions they lived weren't nice, they got by.

she looked down. "... sorry."
"if it helps, a nice lady gave this to me." she added.

magnus composed himself. "it's fine, just don't do it again."

"okay!" she said, her bright attitude back. "anyway, this bread's big for the two of us, would you like some?"

"uh.. n-no thanks." magnus said. he was pretty hungry not haven't eaten in days but he insisted. "you can have it."

emily though, like she didn't hear him split the food in two in equal pieces and handed him a part. "here you go! i think we still have milk in the fridge."

magnus watched as she took out two glasses from the cupboard and the large carton of milk. he put his bread down on a napkin and helped her out.

once their 'dinner' was served, they sat on their small table. magnus took a bite from his bread as emily drank milk.

"anything interesting happen during your trip?" emily asked.

after swallowing his food magnus nodded. "actually, there is."
