the kids were instructed to go home to pack and ask for their parents for permission. the trip would last a few days so benton recommended to only take the essentials

magnus closed his black suitcase after making sure he had everything he needed, benton also recommended to switch into something casual since they were gunna be traveling in a plane for a whole day so the boy now wore a purple hoodie and black sweatpants. as magnus unplugged his phone and stuffed both items into his hoodie pocket, his sister walked into the room and stood by, hugging a certain furry friend who came along for the ride.

"you've packed everything you need, right big brother?" emily asked

"i think so" magnus began to remember the things he packed. "i have two pairs of clothes, my toothbrush, and some lotion..."

"what about socks?"

"oh shoot! you're right!" magnus opened a drawer and took out two pairs. his sister giggled.

"are you sure you wanna stay here all alone though?" magnus asked as he opened his suitcase to put in his socks. earlier they had a discussion and emily decided to stay behind when the ao invited her along. "you can come with if you'd like"

though the teen didn't mind leaving his sister alone, he did worry. the part of town they lived in was pretty shady, the broken down hospital wasn't very secure..

"I'll be fine magnus, you worry too much!" the girl replied with a smile. "you've left me alone so many times that i can take care of myself and plus, i won't be alone" she held up the dog in her arms and lightning gladly wagged his tail and barked as if to say 'i'll take of her!' but how far could magnus trust a literal mutt?

"besides." emily continued as she pet the darkus brawling dog on his head. "i wouldn't wanna be a bother to you and your friends."

"they're not my--! i mean-- you're not a bother em." magnus said.

"... maybe i'm not but i'm also not an awesome one" she shrugged and set lightning down by her feet. "it'd be better if i stay behind, the mission calls for good brawlers like yourself after all!"

magnus smiled before pulling his little sibling into a hug, emily hugging back. it was moments like these where magnus wished he could gift everything to her

she deserved better

"i love you emily, you know i'd do anything to make you happy right?"

emily laughed into her brother's chest "you're saying that like you're gunna leave forever!" she said.

magnus laughed as well. she was right he did sound a bit over the top but.. he was being honest!

magnus then pulled away after checking the time on the wall clock. benton dusk said to meet up in his lab by 5, he only had 40 minutes.

"well, i guess i better get going now." magnus said and grabbed his suitcase on the table.

"ok, i'll walk you out." emily said and the two walked to the front door, the brown and white bulldog following. once outside magnus took out his nillious, he threw it onto the ground and it grew in size. it growled once it came to life

magnus looked behind at his sister who was by the door.

"make sure you lock all the doors and windows when you're home and dont go out wandering the streets too much." the darkus brawler stated. "if you ever need anything dan said his mom could probably help you out and make sure you have your phone with you so we can call and--"

"magnus" emily interrupted. "i'll be fine."

magnus sighed. "alright then," he curled his lips to force a smile. "i'll see you in three days. take care." he boarded his bakugan and the two headed dragon began to slowly fly up, he looked down at his sister, there was a proud smile back on her face.

"goodbye big brother! i love you and don't do anything too dangerous." she waved. "oh! and say hi to dan and the others for me!"

"rawr rawr!" lightning said

and the more distant both the hospital and his sister became, he was gone.
