Is something wrong?

Today was Paige's birthday. Yay, that meant five fun hours of hanging around screaming kids. Dad really had the right idea of legging it as soon as he woke up.

Luckily, Emily and Rebecca were coming to give me company. Thank god I've got such great friends.

At about six o'clock, I woke up to bloody Paige running into my room and yelling at me to get up. She should really work as an alarm clock when she's older.

One stupid kid showed up at half eight. As soon as she arrived, Paige ran up to her and they went straight to the living room and started playing with Paige new toys. That was the most peace I had all day, surprise surprise.

The time was now ten o clock and the party had been going on for a whole hour. Emily and Rebecca had yet to show up. I've got such great friends.

Suddenly, Karen came running into the room. I had no idea that my sister invited her. I looked up to the door and saw Jake, Ben and Pete and Sue Brockman. I stood up and walked over to them.

"Oh hi," I said.

Jake looked relieved. "I got forced to come here," he said, glaring at his parents. I rolled my eyes.

"Emily and Rebecca were supposed to come but they ain't here yet," I said, rolling my eyes again. I had done that a lot today, because the snotty little kids kept trying to get me to do stuff for them. What am I, a slave?

"Chelsea, where's your parents I need to make sure they know Karen's here," Sue said.

"Mums in the kitchen which is just through there," I said, pointing down the hallway. They went off in that direction, leaving Jake with me.

"Did they force you to come?" I asked Jake.

"Hi Chelsea," Ben said. I had actually forgotten he was there.

"Oh hi ben," I said.

"Yeah they did," Jake replied. He looked really bored. Pete and Sue came back and sat in the living room.

Later on, Emily and Rebecca arrived and the four (yes Jake was allowed even though the two girls don't really like him) we sitting on the windowsill eating crisps and watching a load of five year olds trash my living room. Oh sorry, a load of five year olds and one seven year old. And actually, it was mainly the seven year old. Ben really is a hyperactive child. Apparently I used to be that full of energy but I can hardly imagine that. Not now anyway.

The only reason I hadn't run away was the fact that my mum was letting me have food. Stupid bribe I know, but it works.

"Ow Emily!" I hissed. Her elbows were digging into my ribs right were I had a massive bruise.

"What?"

"Move your bloody elbows,"

"Sorry,"

"Can you show me where the toilet is?" Jake asked suddenly.

"Sure,"

When we got up the stairs, Jake asked "why do you always have bruises and marks on you?"

"Uhh-"

"You don't need to tell me what's wrong, but is something wrong?"

I hesitated, then nodded.

Jake looked at me for a few seconds then went into the toilet. I stood with my back against the wall. That's why he wanted the toilet I thought.

I quickly went downstairs back to Emily and Rebecca because I knew he wouldn't ask anymore questions when they were there. They had new packs of crisps and chucked one to me when I got there.

"Why is he hanging around us?" Emily asked when I sat back down.

"Because he doesn't want to be here, and I'm the only one he knows apart from Ben and Karen," I answered. In all honestly, I really didn't know why they don't like him.

"But how do you know him? It's not like you talk to him at school. Does he just think, oh I see her so let's just hang out with her at a party-"

"Emily," I said, annoyed. "He lives opposite us and I do talk to him at school. As a matter of fact, I happen to walk home with him everyday. It's just that you're never there,"

Rebecca sat there looking back and forth between me and Emily.

"Stop!" She said, after she had had enough. "Emily, if she wants to be friends with him then she can be friends with him it doesn't effect you, you don't need to be friends with him!"

I smiled at Rebecca but Emily still didn't agree.

"But - but - I thought we were supposed to protect her! All the boys pretty much like her we don't want her to get her do we?"

"Who are you, the older brother I never had?" I asked.

"Well, you do need one,"

"Emily!" Rebecca said again. "Shush, he's coming back. Just be quiet,"

Hmm.. maybe Rebecca doesn't mind him, but I don't get Emily's hatred for him. I get that she's trying to be sweet but what she's doing is just downright rude.

Throughout the whole of March, I ended up getting quite a lot of detentions. Anything's better than going home though. Shoot, I've said that before. I must be getting desperate.

Unfortunately, as soon as I got a detention, Daniel Moore purposely got one too. Of cource, the photo issue has been cleared up, but it took some time. Our form tuter spoke to him, he said he'd taken it down but nobody could prove it so they had to ask his parents to make sure. The whole thing was such a lot of bother and I almost wished I'd never opened my big mouth in the first place.
