he's kinda scary

It was now mid April and everything was just getting worse.

Purposely getting detentions didn't help because then my dad would just find out, get super angry and me and ... well...

I had to try to stay away from the Brockmans for a while. Not that there was anything wrong with them of cource, but avoiding going home doesn't help. It just makes me a coward.

I didn't talk to anyone at school, either. Emily and Rebecca - well, just Emily thought it was because of what happened at the party. Truth is, that has nothing to do with it but if I was speaking to people, I definately wouldn't be speaking to her. Maybe Rebecca, because she tried to break off the fight, but even Emily's face is annoying me right now.

"Chelski are you alright?" Rebecca asked. Chelski was a nickname I had for a long time. It started when Rebecca went to a ski holiday and I went too. We were like five, so nobody exactly expected us to be able to do it. But I could. Yay!!

So, after we got back to the place we were staying, Rebecca spoke to me but called me Chelski by accident. We found it funny because ski and sea rhyme. So ever since, my nickname has been Chelski.

*back to reality*

I grunted in responce. I was sitting in the library doing English homework that was due in next. # Last minute gang where you at?

Anyways.. Rebecca had found me and apparently wanted to talk to me.

"Chels, you have to talk at some point,"

I was about to say, 'No I Don't,' but that would prove her point.

Instead, I shook my head and carried on doing homework.

She sat down next to me and said, "Chelsea, what exactly is the matter? If you don't tell anyone, it won't be solved!"

I thought back to Jake's bullying. He didn't tell anyone, (apart from me, but I didn't spread the news around) and it still got solved. Maybe there were witnesses. But there weren't any witnesses this time. Only me and Paige.

I sighed and turned to face Rebecca. She genuinely looked worried.

"You haven't been yourself at all. Not for ages," she said. "You haven't been talking to anyone. Not me, not Emily - not even Jake and we all know he's like your best friend now,"

I looked back down.

"Also, you had a detention phase. At first I thought you were trying to be popu-"

"Well I already am popular, aren't I?" I hissed. "It's none of your buisness why I've been distant with everyone and don't keep on about it. If I was to tell somebody, it would be Jake. Laters,"

I packed up my stuff, threw a (backwards) peace sign at Rebecca and stormed off.

Right now, I was sitting in my garage. I wasn't going to the Brockmans house like normal. But I was locked out. So the garage was the best place to go. Suddenly, I heard a crashing noise. I looked over at the door. I thought it was dad. But it was only Jake.

"Uh, how did you get in here?" I asked.

"Well, the door was open. Anyway I saw you in here and was just wondering why. You don't normally hang out in a garage,"

Actually, I used to. When I lived closer to Emily, Her Rebecca and I would have band rehearsals in my garage. (Yes I have a band) :) but he doesn't need to know any of that.

I just sighed. "Nobody's in and I don't fancy waiting on the door step,"

"You can come to mine-"

"No! I mean.. I have to -"

"Chelsea, what's up?" He asked.

I knew I couldn't keep this a secret any longer, but I just couldn't tell him.

"Well, you know my dad," I started. I'll tell him some of the truth. That should be ok.

"Yeah,"

"Well, recently he lost his job. He's not very good at dealing with it and he uh drinks a whole lot. He's an alcoholic.

When he starts to drink, he can't stop. He really gets drunk a lot. And when he does... well he's kinda scary. That's all," I say.

"So your unusually quiet at school and turn up with a lot of bruises because you have a drunk dad,"

"Well-"

But just then, I hear the front door opening.

"You should probably go. You don't want my dad to catch you here do you,"

He was about to say something but I forced him out. I then ran up and used my usual entrance to my room. I looked out the window and saw Jake still standing there. I hand signaled from to go. For now, I had to act like I'd been in my room the entire time.

Jake POV

I reluctantly went home. I didn't want to leave her, at that party last month she told me something was wrong. Now she won't talk to anyone and coops herself up in the library and goes straight home. But apparently she's now living in a garage. I really am worried about her. After what she's told me about her dad. I know she didn't tell me the full truth, and it must be something to do with her dad. I've just got to work out what. She won't tell me.

As I got through the door, my mum shouted, "IS THAT YOU JAKE?"

"YES MUM," I replied.

I tried to go upstairs but mum pushed dad into the hallway.

"So, where have you been?" He's clearly about to start a really awkward conversation.

"I was late out of school," I said. I really didn't want to accidently spill that Chelsea has a problem and I'm not sure what.

Dad nodded.

"We're going to have guests over for dinner tomorrow,"

"Ok," I said and went to my room.

This could either go badly, or it could go badly.
