The cloudy sky had caused a brisk chill throughout the air which made Phoebe grip her coffee cup tighter to her chest. She stood in line outside the hospital with Lexie and Jackson at either side, her obvious shivering made Jackson encompass her with his own warmth, wrapping his arms around her and bringing her into the comfort of his jacket with her back to his chest.
"This is ridiculous." Lexie huffed as she looked to the large, body metal detectors at the doors of the hospital, delaying their entrance to work.
"If this system works, I'm all for it." Phoebe commented with a slight shrug.
"Well yeah." Lexie stuttered. "But it makes me late for work everyday. I didn't know a change of hair colour was such a security risk." She continued bitterly under her breath, pulling a laugh from Phoebe and Jackson in turn.
Once they had finally made it to the detectors they removed the necessary items and showed them their badges, Phoebe and Jackson promptly gained access to the hospital but as Lexie had mentioned, she on the other hand wasn't as lucky. She was stopped by security due to her badge not working and the photo. As Lexie's argument with security went on, Phoebe glanced at her watch before she waved to get the younger woman's attention.
"Sorry Lex, I've got to go I'm already late." She said loudly from inside the hospital, when she received a lost look in return, guilt filled her eyes. "I'll send Mark or Derek your way if I see them to help, okay?" She tried with an awkward smile. Lexie quickly waved her off as she continued to shout at security, allowing Phoebe and Jackson to scurry off.
Once dressed in her scrubs Phoebe went on rounds, as she walked the halls of the hospital she noticed the glaring camera following some of the doctors around. She tried to avoid the lens as much as she could but failed when she was paged by Dr Bailey. As she was on her way to meet with Bailey a familiar sight made her stop in her tracks. Once the initial shock slowly wore off a gentle smile worked its way onto her face, she noticed that the young brunette hadn't noticed her appearance yet.
"Mary." Phoebe softly greeted. Mary whipped her head to the side where she saw Phoebe standing and a smile immediately covered her face.
"Hi." Mary greeted, matching Phoebe's gentle tone.
The women embraced carefully, holding each other tightly for a moment. As they parted they both noticed each other's glossy eyes and shared a small laugh.
"Here for your surgery I assume?" Phoebe questioned once they had detached and Mary's husband returned to her side.
"Yeah, todays the big day." Mary replied cheerfully, happily looking up to meet her husbands gaze.
"Ah Dr March, you're already here." Dr Bailey said as she approached the trio.
"Yes, sorry I was on my way to meet you but saw Mary and couldn't not say hi." Phoebe explained. "What did you need Dr Bailey?" Phoebe asked with a polite grin.
