INDIANA II JJ Maybank (Outerbanks)

chapter nine

John B had taken the HMS Pogue to the Camerons house to get the scuba gear. Kie and Pope had both went home to get ready to go out into the marsh this afternoon. So it was just Indi and JJ left at the Chateau.

Indi was sitting in the hammock trying to rest before her brother would come back and JJ was somewhere in their house. She didn't know what to say to him since he pulled out the gun yesterday.

"Can we talk?" JJ was know standing in front of her. She hadn't noticed him coming out of the house but he was now blocking her from the sun.

Instead of giving him an answer she sat up on the hammock motioning for him to talk.

"Look Indi, I'm sorry." He said.

"For yelling at me in the car or pulling a gun at Toppers head?" She snapped and there was a pause before JJ spoke up again.

"Both I guess."

"You guess?" 

"No, I'm really sorry." 

"Well why did you pull the gun at him?" She asked him. 

"Ind, I didn't know what else to do, when I saw that he pushed you it just snapped in me alright." He explained and turned around so she couldn't see his face anymore.

"JJ-" She stood up to put his arm on his shoulder.

"No Indi you don't get it." He said turning around to her. Tears had started to well up in his eyes. Indi had never seen him like this before.

"J, I get it. It's okey I'm not mad at you." She said calmly before pulling him into a hug. She felt him tense up at the hug but then he tightly wrapped his arms around her waist as she had hers around his neck.

She pulled away slightly and looked into his ocean blue eyes. He stared right back into hers. She rested her hands on the back of his neck and his were on her hips.

She noticed how his eyes shifted down and looked at her lips and she followed his actions. She suddenly noticed that their noses were touching and their lips were only inches apart.

"You guys ready to leave?" She heard her brothers annoying voice from the dock. She quickly moved away from JJ. Was he about to kiss her or had she just imagined that? 

JJ cleared his throat and Indi started to make her way over to her brother.

"Wait Ind, we good?" He asked her.

"We good." She sent him a small smile, confused at what had just happened seconds ago.

He followed her into the boat and they sat on opposite ends as John B went to pick up Pope and Kie and they made their way to the shipwreck.

John B had successfully stolen two tanks from the Camerons. And Kie was checking them.

"This is empty. You took empty tanks?" Kie asked him. Indi went to check the second tank. "Wait this one is a quarter full."

"That's only enough for one of us." Kie snorted.

"Love it when a plan comes together." Pope muttered.

"Does anybody know how to dive?" Kie asked us.

"It's kind of a Kook sport." JJ said looking at Kie.

"I read about it." 

"Great. Pope read about it, so someone's gonna die." Kie said.

"Look, you put the thing in your mouth and breath. How hard could it be?" JJ asks.

"Well if you come up too fast, nitrogen gets in your blood and you get the bends." Pope responds.

"Bends like bend over and.." JJ says bending over and putting his ass in front of Indi's face as she pushes him away.

"The bends kill you." Pope says as JJ quickly understands that it's not a joke.

"I can dive!" Indi says from the edge of the boat standing up to put on the scuba gear.

"There's no way I'm letting you go down there." JJ said.

"Yeah JJ's right, I'll go." JB volunteered.

"Yeah you can dive. I'm cool with that." JJ said taking the scuba gear out of Indi's hands and told her to go sit down.

"Let me do some calculations real quick." Pope said standing up.

"You serious?" Kie asked him.

"JB it's not safe." Indi tells him.

"I know and that's why I'm not letting you go down there." John B said.

"That boat is about 30 feet down. So it'll take 25 minutes at that depth. Which means you have to make your safety stop at about 10 feet for 2 minutes. Got it?" Pope asked as he had finished his calculations.

"Ten feet, two minutes. Got it." John B tried to remember. Indi took of her long shirt that was covering her body till mid thigh and jumped into the water with it. She swam down ten feet and tied her shirt to the anchor chain.

"Uh.." John B looked at the water where she had just jumped in.

"What was that about?" Pope asked what they had all been thinking. 

"I don't know but I liked it. A lot. It was really hot." JJ said earning a glare from John B. He went on with explaining to John B how to open the cargo hold.

"JB! I tied my shirt to the anchor chain about ten feet down. It's where you need to do your safety stop." Indi said as she came back up to the surface again.

"Cool."

"Keep an eye on this. You need to make sure you have enough time to decompress." Pope said to John B.

"How much do I need?" 

"Unclear, breathe as little as possible." Pope replied.

"Zen, think Zen you know." JJ said.

"Yeah got it." John B smiled at him.

"Hey if we get caught out here in the marsh, we're basically screwed. So, let's better get a move on." Pope said.

"Good luck brother." Indi smiled at him still in the water. 

"Don't worry about me baby sister." He sent her a smile back.

Kie stepped up to John B and placed a kiss on his check. 

"Diver down?" He asked her.

"Diver down." She responded.

He pulled on his mask and jumped into the water making his way down to the wreck.
