INDIANA II JJ Maybank (Outerbanks)

chapter thirty

They drove with the van to where they thought the gold would be close to. They had parked the van and were looking over the green hills of Outer Banks.

"We're in Battery, right here." Pope pointed at the map. "So if this is parcel nine, then it's somewhere northeast of here." He pointed to somewhere in the distance.

"Where?" Indi asked them, she couldn't really see over the hills because she was the smallest in the group.

"Somewhere over there." Kie pointed in the same direction Pope had so she could see. JJ noticed that she still couldn't see, so he got down in front of her so she could hop on his back.

"Right." Pope confirmed. And as Indiana was now on a piggyback ride from JJ she could finally see where they were pointing at.

"Over there? Guy's that's not Tannyhill, that's a subdivision." JJ told them as he now also was looking at where they were pointing.

"Tannyhill Plantation was the entire island." The twins said at the same time.

"It got sold into smaller pieces over time." Indi repeated what she had heard from her father several times before.

"So we're just looking for an old stone wall." Pope said and searched something on the map. He searched for a stone wall and then told them to get back into the van where he gave instructions to John B to where he should drive.

"Okay, so the road should split up here."

"Okay."

"All right. You're gonna take a left." He continued to look at the map.

John B took a sharp left sending Indiana across the van landing on JJ with a thud.

"Whoa, watch your driving dumbass." Indi told her brother feeling a light pain on her entire body.

"You good there babe?" He whispered in her ear as she repositioned herself next to him. She nodded and he took a glance out of the window.

"That looks like a stone wall to me." JJ said as he pointed to the stone wall they were driving by and John B stopped the van.

"This is it." Pope confirmed and Indi got on her knees and leaned over JJ to have a look out of the window.

"Not the Crain house." John B muttered from the drivers seat.

They all stepped out of the van to look at the house they had reached. The Crains house.

"Are you kidding me?" Kiara asked them.

"Worst-case scenario?" JJ said searching for her hand.

"Definitely this." Indi told him and took his hand.

"Why'd it have to be here of all places?" Pope asked them.

"I heard that Mrs. Crain buried her husband's head on the property." JJ said and shivers ran down Indi's back as she was reminded of the Crain stories she had heard from people before.

They climbed over the wall and walked through Crains property. Her garden looked like nobody had taken care of it in years, which was probably the case.

"Look, you guys know whose house it is, right?" Kie asked them as she walked in the lead with Indi straight behind her followed by JJ and the rest.

"Oh, yeah. No, I do." JJ mumbled.

"Honestly, I don't really believe in the stories of this place." John B said to them.

"Neither do I." Indi told them. She didn't really believe that they were true, but she had to admit that the rumors where scary.
