INDIANA II JJ Maybank (Outerbanks)

chapter thirty six

"JJ, what are you doing?" Indi asked from the back of the van. She saw him pulling up into the driveway of what she presumed was Barry's house.

"Welcome to Crackhead Wasteland." Sarah muttered from beside her. Indi shot her a glare but she didn't notice it. Sure this place looked kind of terrible but not everybody could afford to live like her and her family.

"I don't know about this, man." Pope said as the van came to a stop in front of his house.

"Dude, why are we at Barry's?" John B asked as he was hitting himself on the forehead out of frustration.

"This'll only take a second." JJ responded as he got out of the van. John B looked at Indi to see if she knew what he was on about, but she was just as confused as him.

"Where you going?" John B called after him as JJ made his way over to the door. Indi opened the side door of the van and stepped out. 

"Yo soy justicia." JJ replied in Spanish. Indi understood a little off what he said in Spanish as she had the same Spanish classes as him in school. 

"Did you glean anything from that?" Pope asked them as he leaned out of the back of the van. They all looked after JJ as he went inside.

"Something about justice." Indi told him and shrugged her shoulders.

"You know somebody should probably-" 

"Yeah, I got it." John B interrupted Kie as he opened his door to get out of the van.

"Right," Kie said watching how he made his way over to his house, "Indi, you should probably go too?" She asked in more of a question as she wasn't sure if Indiana was even listening. It looked like she was in some sort of trance.

"I know." She replied unsure and slowly followed her brother into the house to see what her boyfriend was up to.

She went inside and stood next to her brother in Barry's living room. JJ seemed to search after something as he was lifting the cushions on the couch and nearly turned the room upside down.

"Yeah, so what's your plan, slick?" John B asked the question they had already asked several times and not gotten a response to yet.

"Well, as thou hath stealeth from us, we shall stealeth from ye." JJ said and looked back at the twins. His breathing hitched as he saw that Indi was also here and he didn't dare look back at here another time. He knew that one eye contact with her would stop him from his plan but at the moment he was still raging off of anger.

"That kind of got lost in translation." John B said and furrowed his eyebrows as he looked down to his sister. Indi gulped, as she had in fact understood what JJ meant and realized what his plan was.

"An eye for an eye, John B." He told him and was about to walk to the next room as John B tried to stop him with standing in front of him.

"Yeah, that's great, JJ. But what happens after you rob a drug dealer, huh? He knows who we are." He asked him and JJ put his hand on his shoulder. 

"I'm not scared of this guy." JJ scoffed and pushed John B away so he could go into Barry's bedroom. 

"I'm scared of him." Indi tried to say it quiet enough so JJ wouldn't hear her, but he did. His heart shattered at her voice and he was about to go out of the room and engulf her in a hug but then decided to get justice. This Barry guy had put a gun at John B and Indiana, and wasn't going to get that easy away with it. 

"I know." John B said and hugged his sister as he was stroking her back while JJ was in Barry's room searching for something useful. 

"What are you doing?" John B asked while hugging Indi as they heard JJ mutter something from the room.
