INDIANA II JJ Maybank (Outerbanks)

chapter twenty five

The next day she woke up in JJ's arm. She turned around to face him but it caused him to wake up.

"Good morning." She giggled.

"Good morning beautiful." His eyes were still closed and she knew he was about to fall back asleep.

"Get up lazy, I promised Heyward to help him in the shop today." She told him.

"Why do you have to be so nice and always offer help." He groaned as he knew he would also come to help if she was going to.

After she had finally gotten him out of bed, they went to Heyward's and found Pope and Kie already helping out.

Indi went to put food into the shelves and Pope and JJ were talking about what had happened the night before with the Kooks. 

"Don't let it get in your head. They were teaming up on us. That's typical Kook shit right there." JJ tells him.

"Hell, yeah." Kie said. None of them had yet told her, why the Kooks were even beating them up.

"What was your thought process, using your head?" JJ asks Pope.

"I don't know, man. I just kind of acted off instinct. I was a cornered animal" Pope replies.

"Hey Pope," Heyward walked in, and they all turned their heads to him. "Someone here to see you."

Behind him walked Deputy Shoupe in. Indi instantly stoped putting the food into the shelves. 

"Evening officer." Pope greeted him. Indi went to stand next to JJ and sent him a worried look at what the Deputy was here for.

"I have a arrest warrant for felony destruction of property." Deputy Shoupe informs them.

"What?" Asked Mr. Heyward.

"Keep your hands on the counter, where I can see 'em." He told Pope as he went over to him to handcuff him. Indi quickly moved to go and stand by him.

"Young lady, out of my way." Shoupe told her and pushed her out of the way. Pope sent worried looks to JJ who was behind him. He knew an arrest would lead him to lose his scholarship.

"Whoa. Shoupe, what'd he do?" Heyward asked him.

"Look at the warrant."

"You're arresting him?" Kie asked him.

"You're just arresting my boy?" Heyward asked.

"Be careful." Kie told him as he harshly closed the handcuffs around his wrists.

"Shoupe, are you listening?" Heyward tried to get his attention.

"You can't just arrest him." Indi shouted at him.

"Anything you say can and will be held against you in the court of law." Shoupe ignored them all. "You have the right to an attorney." 

"How much did they pay you, man?" JJ yelled at him.

They all followed Shoupe outside as he brought Pope to his car. They were all shouting at Shoupe for arresting Pope, but nothing would stop him from doing it.

"I told you we would get in trouble for this." Indi said to JJ who was next to her. He looked at her and saw the worry that was laced in her eyes seeing her friend getting arrested.

He then remembered the words she had said to him yesterday. 'If the police finds out, this is all your fault'. She had warned him about it and now the police had found out.

"It wasn't him!" He yelled after them. Indi looked at him shocked, she did not expect or want him to do this.

"JJ." She grabbed his hand but he shacked it off and walked forward to them.
