INDIANA II JJ Maybank (Outerbanks)

chapter seven

JJ and Indi had been given the job to get the Kegger. They took the van to drive into town and got the Kegger. It didn't take long because JJ knew exactly where he could get a Kegger.

As they were driving to the boneyard to meet up with the others, there was an awkward silence. Normally the two would talk about all different kind of stuff.

"So how do you know Rafe?" He asked her.

"Why do you ask?" She asked him. She looked over at him and his ocean blue eyes were fixed on the road in front of him.

"Well he waved at you, so you must know him."

"I spent the night at his house." She blurted out. The van came to an abrupt stop that sent Indi flying forward, nearly hitting her head on the dash board of the car.

"You did what?!" He had now turned his whole body in her direction looking at her with wide eyes.

"Well the hurricane came and he offered me to stay the night at his house."

"And you didn't think of calling me?"

"The towers were already down, what should I have done?" There was a moment of pause.

"Did he touch you?" JJ asked. She just looked at him. "Indi did he touch you, cause I swear to god if he touc-"

"JJ calm down, nothing happened and no he didn't touch me." She scoffed, "It's not like you care anyways." She muttered the last part so he couldn't hear her.

He started to drive again and they just sat there in silence. She was happy when she saw the others on the side of the road, signaling that they had arrived at the parking lot of the bone yard.

"There you are, let's go." John B said as they got out of the car.

They started to make their way down to the boneyard. John B and JJ were carrying the Kegger. As they arrived the boys set it down and started to fill cups of beer.

Soon there had arrived more people. There was a bunch of Pogues, Kooks and Tourons there. Indi always liked to talk with the Tourons to get to know how it is in the rest of the World. Her father could never afford to take John B and her outside of the Outer Banks.

So that's what she did. She tried to talk with as many Tourists as she could. Kiara was talking about Zodiac signs with a group of people. John B was flirting with a girl, JJ was playing drinking games with some girl and Pope was, well doing I don't even know what he was exactly doing. Pope is just weird sometimes but I still love him like a brother.

The sun had started to go down and a lot of people had now shown up. Indi needed some space so she went to go sit down on a log further away from the party.

"Well if it isn't the Pogue princess herself." She heard someone sit down next to her. She looked over and saw Rafe grinning at her.

"You know, I was disappointed when I woke up this morning and saw that you were already gone." He continued.

"Yeah, well I had somewhere to be." She just bluntly said. She didn't want the Pogues to catch her with Rafe, because she didn't want to start an argument.

"With the Pogues?" He asked.

"Yes with the Pogues."

"You know, you are much better than them, you could always come and hang out with me and my friends."

"I'm a Pogue too and I always will be." She just told him and with that she stood up to go and find her friends again. She found a mop of blonde hair in the crowd and started to make her way over to it.

"I missed you." He said as Indi went to stand next to him. He held two red cups of beer in his hands.

"Yo John B!" JJ shouted to him as he was just about to walk past them.

"What are you guys doing?" He asked them.

"I got this for you. You want this one?" JJ asked as he held out one of the red cups to John B.

"For me? Yeah I will take this one." He said as he reached out to take the cup.

"Oh wait." JJ said as he turned and reached the cup out to Sarah Cameron who was just walking past them. "Hey." He smiled at her.

"Hi." The Kook Princess herself said back.

"Hey Sarah. Can I interest you in a tasty Milwaukee beverage?" JJ asked her.

"No thanks." She smiled.

"Come on, is it not fancy enough for you?" JJ laughed.

"No. We were just leaving." She responded.

"Hey. you know what? I'll take it." Her boyfriend Topper said from beside her. "Thank you man I appreciate it."

"That's nice Topper, but I didn't ask you." JJ continued trying to give the cup to Sarah. "If you said pretty please, maybe. But you didn't."

"Oh pretty please." Topper scoffed.

"Yeah, so Sarah. You can have it." He tried giving the cup to her again.

"She doesn't want it." Topper said and hit the cup out of JJ's hands. The cup landed on Indi and splashed all over her.

A rage of anger hit JJ as he saw Indi drenched in the beer he was just holding seconds ago. He grabbed a fist of Toppers shirt and shoved him back. Indi tried to push JJ back but had no luck. John B came to her rescue and pulled him back for her.

"You're so funny man!" JJ yelled at Topper. He turned around at Indi. "Are you alright?" He asked her.

"Dirty Pogues!" Topper yelled. "It's what you deserve."

Before Indi could contemplate what was happening, John B was already jumping Topper.

"John B!" She heard Pope. "We're supposed to be incognito remember?"

Sarah tried to call for her boyfriend as he swung for John B. Indi was now not holding JJ back anymore it was the other way around. As much as JJ wanted to help his best friend he knew Indi would want to help her brother and he didn't want her to get hurt.

"Hey John B, don't make me drown you like your old man." Topper yelled at John B as he held his head underwater. Anger rose in Indi at the mention of their father but JJ's grip around her waist was too strong.

"J please we have to help him!" She cried out to him as tears started to well up in her eyes. John B now had the upper hand but that quickly changed again and Topper started to drown him again. Some of the people in the crowd were cheering them on and some of them were yelling at them to stop.

Indi felt JJ's grip loosen a bit around her waist and took that as her chance to go help her brother. She ran over to them and punched Topper hard in the jaw. He stumbled back slightly but then just pushed her away.

"Fuck off you bitch!" He yelled at her as he pushed her. She landed hard in the water and the wind got knocked out of her lungs.

The next thing she heard as she was still lying on the ground was the safety klick of a gun. JJ was holding the gun he had taken from the motel room at Toppers head.

"Yeah, you know what that is. Your move, Broski." JJ said.

"JJ put the gun down."Sarah pleaded.

"Did you say something princess?" JJ asked her. Indi slowly stood up and made her way over to JJ and put her hand on his shoulder.

"We're good! We're good!" Topper said from beneath them as he took his hands away from John B.

"Indi can you check your psycho boyfriend please?" Sarah yelled at her.

Indi tried to take the gun away from JJ but he moved away from her. "Okay, everyone listen up! Get the hell off our side of the island!" He shouted as he fired the gun twice. Indi jumped at the shots and looked at him in shock.

"Are you crazy! You idiot!" She heard Pope yell at him. Indi didn't care about JJ at the moment and turned to her brother who just fell unconscious into the water. She heard the others arguing in the background.

"Hey don't worry I got you." Was all she said to him as he closed his eyes again.
