INDIANA II JJ Maybank (Outerbanks)

chapter twenty four

Indi was running further into the forest. She knew the Deputy wouldn't follow her into the forest, which made her even more worried because that would probably make them go after John B.

She came out of the forest and got to a road. She tried to figure out where on the island she was and figured she should try to find one of the Pogues.

The first person that came into her mind was JJ. She started to make her way over to JJ's house even if the chance of him being there was small because of his dad.

Once she got nearer to his house she started to hear gunshots being fired. Immediately thinking he was in trouble she started running again to reach the house quicker.

She saw him shooting at a teddy bear and Pope next to him yelling his name to get his attention.

He finally heard Pope and turned to him. 

"They know." Pope told him. Indi walked up to them finally joining them and coming into their view.

"What?" JJ asked him and looked confused as he also saw Indi joining them.

"They know." Pope repeated.

"They know what?" Indi asked him, also confused at what he is trying to tell them.

"All right, chill, bro. All right? They don't know shit." JJ went to sit down.

"Topper knows I sunk his boat." 

"How do you know they know?" JJ asked him.

"Because Rafe and Topper posted outside of Heyward's and mad dogged me." Pope started to pace back and forth. 

"Will you calm down and get a grip, man? They don't know shit." JJ told him calmly.

"Calm down? Are you serious, I knew we would get in so much trouble for this. They probably saw us on the cameras." Indi started to freak out to. She was already on the run from the police and didn't want to have more trouble with them.

"There was no power. How could they have seen us?" JJ asked.

"It's Figure Eight. They got generators." Pope started. "They don't give scholarships to kids who vengefully sink boats. It's not a good look on my transcript."

"And they don't send homeless kids to a nice foster family either. I'm going to land in juvenile!"  Indi added.

"Enough with the regret, guys!" JJ shouted as he stood up. "They caved your face in." He pointed at Pope's head.

"And he touched you!" He turned to look at Indi and then looked back again at Pope.

"They hit us, we hit them. It's the law of the jungle." He tells them. "Now if any Kooks come up to you and ask if you had anything to do with it, you walk up to 'em, look 'em right in the eye," He grabs Pope at the neck.

"and..." He waits for Pope to finish the sentence.

"Deny the living shit out of it." Pope says.

"Pope..." Indi tries to say something but JJ interrupts her.

"That's right. Deny, deny, deny." JJ says. "But just for safety, we don't go anywhere without protection." JJ points at his gun. "Right?"

"JJ are you crazy? This isn't some kind of joke." She is still freaking out.

"Ind, look we got it all under control. I don't know what your problem is."JJ tells her.

"My problem? Do you want to know what my problem is?" She started to raise her voice. 

"My problem is, that the police is after me and John B because we fled when they were taking us away to foster care. And the worst part is that I don't even know if he is alright and you are telling us that everything is going to be okay because Pope drowned Topper's boat and we should just 'deny the living shit out of it'" She shouted at him.
