The Dreaded Hell Week

Setting down her pen onto the desk, (Y/n) pushes her paper to the side and takes a deep breath. Her stomach cramping up slightly making her frown to herself while she stretches her arms over her head. The girl taking a small look over her homework to make sure she's done it properly before nodding to herself and taking a sip of her water. As she pushes to her feet, she grabs her phone to flick through her messages and her notifications.

(Y/n) runs her fingers through her hair as she heads toward the bathroom with a small hum. Her eyes focusing on her phone as she opens the door, texting her friend quickly before she turns toward one of her many addictive phone games and slides onto the toilet. As she does her business, she turns her attention to her phone before setting it down to go sort herself out and flush. However, she freezes when she notices a rather unusual appearance in her underwear.

There's blood...

Trying not to panic to freak out her parents (her father more than her mother), she stuffs tissue down there and pulls her underwear back up with a deep breath. The girl immediately seeking out for her grandmother as she heads down the hallway and looks around the house. (Y/n) keeping herself as calm as she possibly could despite the scare of bleeding from an area that she isn't used to bleeding from.

As soon as she finds her grandmother Inko, she looks toward her grandfather Enji who's reading the paper and takes a deep breath. The girl psyching herself up as she clears her throat and taps Inko's arm gently making the woman look up from her knitting to check on her granddaughter. (Y/n) tugs at her arm, motioning her to follow her as subtly as possible to not startle Enji and get him involved.

Once (Y/n) and Inko are in the kitchen and the door is shut to prevent anyone from walking in and hearing, (Y/n) takes a deep breath and fiddles with her nails. Inko immediately takes notice of it and looks toward her worried. The green haired woman pulling her granddaughter close as she sniffles.

"What's wrong? Are you okay, sweetie?" Inko asks worried, tucking a strand of hair behind her granddaughters ear and taking a deep breath to make sure her granddaughter is okay, "What's happened? Do I need to call someone? Maybe get your grandfather to beat someone up? What —"

"Grandma, I'm not dying... just..." (Y/n) says softly, taking a deep breath as she looks toward her worried grandmother and smiles to herself as Inko breathes a sigh of relief, "I'm... uh... I'm bleeding from uh..."

"Oh my!" Inko squeaks out softly as she runs her fingers through her hair as she takes (Y/n)'s hands and pulls her through the house into the bathroom, "Okay! So, what we do my little lady is that you put this in your underwear so it doesn't stain,"

"What is it?" She asks tilting her head as she takes the small packet and assesses the small object with a small hum, "It's quite small, grandma,"

"It's a pad, that'll do for now until you're comfortable with other products," Inko explains as she leaves the bathroom and shuts the door. The girl taking a deep breath as she puts it on, "You're on your period, sweetie. You're growing into a young woman now,"

"I don't feel any different," (Y/n) says as she opens the door when she finishes placing it and looking toward her grandmother who sends her a reassuring smile and kisses her forehead, "Is this a one time thing? Please tell me it's nothing too bad..."

"It happens every twenty eight days," Inko explains softly making (Y/n) slump in disbelief as Inko leads her into her bedroom and sits her down, "You may experience cramps in your tummy or back, mood swings and food cravings. They're all completely normal and you're body is just going through it's cycle,"
