(On the road)
"Do you have younger cousins, siblings?" I ask.
"I have a younger brother and sister."
"How are old are they?" I ask.
"Three and fifteen," Leo says.
"Aww, no wonder you're good with kids," I say.
"Well I take this alligator and a few others stuff animals and you can give the rest to your sister, it's too much," I say.
"Okay, thanks," he says.
We then proceed to drive home.
It's pitch black when driving, the moon vanishes behind the clouds. The atmosphere feels spooky and weird. I remember back to my dream. "Don't go, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." those same words start echoing in my head. I get scared and breathless. Leo notices.
"Hey, what's wrong." He asks, holding my hand.
I don't say anything but try my hardest to take full breaths.
"Candy, you okay? Want me to stop the car?" He doesn't wait for an answer and stops the car near the curb.
I don't say anything. I try closing my eyes.
"It's gone, the echoes. It's gone." I say.
"What echoes, I don't hear anything." He says confused.
"No it's nothing, let's go, this area is creepy," I say looking around.
"What's there to be scared of, when you're with me. Don't worry I got yo- hey the car won't turn on!"
I look at him, hoping he's lying.
"Leo, don't kid around with me," I say nervously.
"I'm not, it's not turning on." He says pushing the start button multiple times.
"What are we going to do, I'm scared, there's literally no lights here," I say looking around.
"It's okay, I'll go check what's wrong." He says unbuckling his seat belt.
"No, it's dangerous. You never know who's out there." I say pulling on his arm.
"Candy, it's fine, I'll go check." He says getting out of the car. He closes the door.
Leo was is in front of me, but I can't see him, because of the hood. I wanted to help, even though I'm scared. I get out of the car and walk around.
"Hey let me help," I say walking towards him.
"Here," he says, giving me the flashlight. I hear something move in the wood on the left. I get closer to Leo.
"Leo, you're not scared?" I say looking off in the distance.
"No."
I look at Leo, it's dark. I shine the flashlight on him to see his face and I drop to the floor.
"Who are you?" I say scared.
"I'm no one." This mysterious person says moving towards me.
"Leo, Leo! Leo!" I say shouting and crawling cause my legs won't cooperate with me. I close my eyes in fear. "Leo!" I scream.
"I'm here! I'm here." Leo says shaking me. "What's wrong, look at me."
I open my eyes, and Leo looks at me worried.
Tears drop from my eyes. I'm frightened and shaking. Leo wipes my tears away and holds me close to him. Puts me on his chest.
"I'm here, I'm here." He says softly.
I start crying. But he doesn't let go of me and holds me tightly.
I calm down and lift myself to look at him. He wipes more of my tears. I look at him, he looks back at me. He comes in and kisses my forehead.
"What's wrong? Was it a bad dream?" He asks, hugging me tightly.
"Yeah," I say looking around. I'm shocked and scared to see where we are.
"Leo, why are we here?" I say, as more tears roll down my eyes. I look back at him.
"You fell asleep after driving off from the amusement park, while driving I noticed something running in front of the car, I stopped it here, I was going to check on it, but you started screaming." He says.
"Don't go!" I say pulling him.
"I won't if you say so." He says.
"Let's go, I'll tell you about my dream."
I look at Leo's finger pushing the start button intensely. Hoping it works, unlike my dream. The car starts, I feel relieved. We drive off.
"You know, I've dreamt of the same place, where we stop," I say at last.
"Really, What happened?" Leo asks.
"I was having a panic attack. In my dream and You pulled the car over in that same exact spot, We were literally at. You ask me if I was okay, I said I was scared. You re-started the car but the car didn't start. You said-" I take a deep breath.
"slow down, speak slowly," Leo says.
"You we're going to check and see what's wrong and I didn't want you to go, but you went. I wanted to help you so I went outside. You hand me the flashlight. I heard something in the distance and got scared and got close to you. I wanted to look at you, but it was dark. So I shined the flashlight at you. But little did I know, that wasn't you. I dropped to the floor, trying to run, but my legs didn't cooperate so I had to crawl. I was scared, this guy was walking towards me, I was scared and I called for you. You know I had a dream similar to this dream." I say, frightened.
Leo looks at me and grabs my hands and kisses them.
"It's okay, it was just a dream, I'm here." He says. "Your hands are cold."
He places them in his pocket.
"Nothing is going to hurt you when I'm here."
(Later)
By now we are almost home. I wipe my tears away and try to make myself look pleasing.
"Thanks, Leo. I had a good time today." I say while Leo pulls into the driveway.
"I did too, it's been so long...since, I had fun." He says, smiling at me.
"I look like a potato," I say.
"You love to cry, don't you?" Leo asks.
"Yes, it's my personal hobby," I say giggling.
"You're cute either way. Happy, sad, whatever your expression." He says.
I don't say anything. I turn back to grab my stuffed animals. I grab my bag and unbuckle my seat belt. I was ready to get out.
"Hey, are you forgetting something?" Leo asks.
"No, what?" I ask, looking at him.
"This," he says pointing to my lips. I pause for a moment and get close to him.
"Wait, I change my mind," I say turning back.
Leo then pulls me back to him and his lips touch mine. His hands hold my face. He moves his lip down my neck.
"Ouch," I say.
"It hurts?" He asks, pulling my hair back to look at my neck.
"It's fine," I say.
"You're mine." He says, touching the hickey slightly.
I can feel myself getting red, but good thing it's darkish. But I still turn away.
"You're mine," Leo says again, pulling me to look at him.
I look at him, his eyes sparkle through the darkness.
"I'm going, goodnight," I say quickly getting out of the car.
I walk out around the car Leo rolls down his window.
"Goodnight, sweet dreams." He says waving his hand.
I walk away shyly. Before I open the door, I look back.
"Go, get home safely," I say.
I go inside and he drives off.
