A Teacher's Worth

For every craft,
a blacksmith is given
different ore
and materials,
but he trusts
in his skills
and his hammer.
He swings and swings
his hammer
rapidly and repeatedly
again and again
till the core forms an ingot,
from which
his craft is made.

Sometimes,
in rare occasions,
despite his meticulous focus
and his precise swings,
the craft he is making
may turn out differently--
the shape distorted,
the edges rough.
The blacksmith
may feel like a failure--
disillusioned
and disorientated;
But if he keeps on
believing in his skills
and continues to
swing his hammer,
he will someday
perfect his crafts.

Teachers are like the blacksmith:
Every year you are given
different students
that need shaping
in different environments.

You may sometimes feel
like a failure and unworthy
because your students
do not meet
your expectations.
But do not lose sight of
your true worth:
Believe in your skills,
and continue to swing
that hammer!
Let your sweat drips.
Let your skin bleeds.
Continue to swing,
and never give up!
Maybe not today,
but someday
you will get
what you are
aiming for.
