The rest of the day you spent in a daze. You packed your stuff and tried to wrap your head around the events of the last few days.
You had went to bed early and against your expectations you fell asleep almost immediately. At about 3.15 am you were awoken by your Line ringtone.
Still rubbing your eyes you held your phone to your ear. "Hey."
"Hey, I'm on my way to catch the train home." Came Wakatoshi's deep voice from the other side.
"Good, thanks for calling me... You sound tired." You replied making him chuckle.
"So do you, maybe I shouldn't have woken you." He said apologetically.
"No no, I don't mind. I'm glad knowing you arrived safely." You reassured him. "It's so strange that you're back on your side of the world... I still have the feeling that I can just go back to your hotel and meet you."
There was a short moment of silence on the other end of the line and you mentally kicked yourself for ruining the mood.
"We'll figure something out." Came his reply. "We'll just need to be patient."
"Yeah, it'll work out fine in the end." You said, to convince yourself more than him.
"Anyway, have a safe trip home and I'll call you when I land tomorrow." You diverted the conversation before another silence could settle.
"Okay, until tomorrow. Goodnight." He said and you already started feeling lonely again.
"Goodnight. Or have a good day, I guess. I hope you won't experience too much jet lag." You were about to end your conversation there, when you suddenly remembered something.
"Oh! Wakatoshi!" You called out, hoping he wasn't hanging up yet.
"Yes?" He replied, to your relief.
"Happy birthday." You told him, glad that you had remembered in time to tell him.
"Thanks." He said and you thought you could hear his smile in his voice.
Then the both of you said your actual goodbyes and hung up, leaving you staring up at the ceiling. After lying awake for a while your gaze shifted to the chair next to your bed, where you had hung Wakatoshi's shirt to dry.
You'd washed it with a little bit of your shampoo because you were fully intent on wearing it home tomorrow. As you looked at his name and number thoughts started creeping into your head.
'I was not even able to keep the friends that I could actually meet up with, how am I ever going to keep this going?
I didn't have any mutual interest with those friends though, I'm doing fine with Marie, right?
Do I have mutual interests with Wakatoshi though?
I don't really do I?
You could say we are each other's mutual interest perhaps?
Also we seem to have a mutual interest for kissing the other...'
Your thoughts kept you company until the sun rose and you didn't get another wink of sleep for the rest of the night.
In the morning you checked out of your hotel and after having breakfast you took public transportation back to the airport.
After killing some time you were finally allowed to board the plane and from then it took only about two hours to arrive back in your home country.
When you had cleared customs and were on your way tot he exit of the airport, you put your phone of off airplane mode. As soon as you did it started buzzing for three minutes straight.
