Chapter Three
Sofia and I walked into the lunch room.
“Hey, so...where do you want to sit?” asked Sofia.
I balanced my tray. “Uhhhhhh....’
‘Let’s go sit with your brother!” Sofia cried, making her way to James.
I groaned, trailing along after her. As much as I loved my brother and his friends- all the major sl*ts always hung around there-and boy did they get on my nerves.
We reached the table, me staring up at the ceiling, silently cursing Sofia.
“Oh, hey Ade, Sof,” James said.
My eyes snapped down to meet his gaze and I plastered on a fake smile. “Hi.”
“What are you two doing here?” asked James.
I smiled, sweetly. “Actually we were just going! C’mon Sof-
“May we sit here?” cut in Sofia, smoothly.
I could feel the bimbos’ gazes glare into our heads. Oh please, let me die already.
“Sure!” James replied.
I groaned, mutely, and dropped onto the bench, frowning.
Immediately, all the boys greeted me, quickly fixing their shirts and hair. I managed to not roll my eyes. Man, they were just hopeless.
Michelle, one of the bimbos sidled up to my brother, fluttering her eyelashes. “Hey James.’
James smiled, broadly back. “Um, hey.”
“Want to...hang out later?” Michelle simpered.
Before he could answer, she started making out with him. I rolled my eyes.
Pass the bucket.
“And this is why we don’t sit here,” I whispered at Sofia, sharply.
The bimbos didn’t mind me (cuz’ I was twins with James-and they didn’t consider me a threat), but they absolutely HATED the guts of Sofia. They all saw Sofia as a threat-mainly because she was best friends with me-which meant she’d be closer to James, and not only that-but Sof was naturally pretty.
“James, do those two really have to sit with us?” complained Michelle.
I sent her a death glare. “Excuse me?”
Everyone knew I was deadly-not only good at making snappy comebacks-but also at kung-fu (I got a black belt in Year 3)-so they tried not to get on my bad side.
Michelle’s eyes widened. “Um...I meant Sofia...why does that geek have to sit here.”
Sofia looked down, closing her eyes, painfully. I gritted my teeth. Sofia was loud and confident-but when it came to standing up against people-she suddenly always went quiet and shy.
I glanced at James, who shoved Michelle off him, glaring at her. “Don’t call Sof a geek.”
Michelle crossed her arms across her chest. “What...you like that absolute pathetic nerd?”
James narrowed his eyes. “I....no....I don’t like her, but- ‘
Sofia quickly stood up, tears filling up her eyes. She hurried away, leaving her tray behind.
I bit my lip. Why’d she hurry off like that? I mean he said he didn’t like her as in not love like.
Michelle let out a high-pitched, annoying excuse for a laugh. “Pathetic little loser.’
