Chapter Twenty Two

Yes! 2 uploads in one day, I am fantastic. LOL, enjoy

I studied myself in the mirror, swaying from one side to the other.

I had a sky blue halter dress with a sparkly belt on and blue kitten heels on. I smiled.  I looked good.

We were having a barbeque lunch, and we’d invited a bunch of people.  Dad had invited several work mates’ and their families, and my brothers and I had been allowed to invite two people each. I’d decided to invite Sofia (obviously), and one of my guy friends, Julian-since his family were pretty close to us. Liam was inviting Noelle and one of his friends. James was inviting two of his friends (cuz’ I’d already invited Sofia). Ethan had invited Harmony and one of his friends. Jacob had just invited Audrey-saying he didn’t want to invite anyone else.

“Get down Ade!” yelled Jacob.

“Coming!” I called.

I hurried downstairs, and headed to the back-where everyone was. No one was here yet-except for Harmony and Audrey who were helping to set up things.

Harmony strode past, holding a plate of Doritos and a bottle of salsa. Audrey was busy stringing up some lights with Jacob. James was struggling to pin some balloons up. We usually made a big deal out of family parties. Usually Mum would be rushing around, ordering us around. She kept the house under control and busy. But, it seemed like everyone was still coping without her.

After everything was set up, we heard the doorbell ring.

Sofia bounded through the door, greeting us all, before leaping into James’s eyes and starting to make out with him. Ugh, PDA alert.

People started to pile in-and before long, our backyard was full with people, chatter and laughter.

I was standing in a corner, holding onto a paper cup with Coke in it. Julian was standing next to me, scoffing down chocolate mousse.

I wrinkled my nose. “Ew...how can you eat so much?”

Julian smirked. “I’m a guy. What do you think?”

I rolled my eyes. Man, he was dead irritating! I sighed, and chugged down the rest of my Coke.

“I’m heading inside,” I told him, dumping my plastic cup in the garbage bin that was near to us.

Julian pouted. “Why?”

I chuckled. “I’m just going to go to the bathroom and refresh myself. I’ll be back.”

Julian nodded. “Okay...don’t go too long.”

I smiled. “I’ll try not.”

I headed indoors, taking a deep breath. It was cold and conditioned in here, and I adjusted to the sudden temperature drop.

I headed towards my room.

Along the way, I nearly crashed into someone heading down the stairs.

“Ooops, sorry,” I murmured, edging past them.

“Adrianna?”

I knew that voice. Too well in fact.

I totally froze, swallowing a lump in my throat.

Ever so slowly, I lifted my head up to meet the gaze of none other than Troy Kruger.

“Hi,” I said, trying to sound confident.

Wait...why was he talking to me?

I immediately voiced my thoughts. Troy frowned, chewing his lip.

“I...I...” he stammered, trying to think of something to say.

I glanced at him. “Please tell me the truth, Troy.”

He shook his head, furiously. “I-I can’t.”

My face tightened. What was he keeping from me? I thought we told each other everything. Maybe I had just wasted my time. Maybe these past few months had been a total waste of my time.

I gritted my teeth. “Fine. Don’t tell me. I’m just going to forget these past few months. I am going to forget that they ever meant something to me.”

“Adrianna,” Troy said, softly.

I took a deep breath. “Goodbye Troy.”

I walked away quickly, so he couldn’t see the tears forming in my eyes.

As I walked away, I could feel my heart breaking into tiny pieces.
