Chapter 14
Client
"You really look different, Lea!"
"How many times I have to tell you that I am not Lea, anymore?"
"Ang sungit. Okay fine, Frances!"
"You look hotter than ever in tan complexion!
"Really?"
"Oo! Ano kamusta ang buhay bukid?" she laughed.
Huminga ako nang malalim at saglit natahimik.
"Masaya."
Her eyes widened at my response. "Totoo? Na-enjoy mo ang buhay do'n?"
"Totoo."
Living in the most unurbanized place taught me a lot of things, one is that you there are stuffs you obtained that you don't actually need. Imagine, I survived for months without the things I thought I couldn't live without. It just looks essential because of the pressure around you, specifically when you are in the city.
"I can't imagine. By the way, what's your plan?"
I pulled my towel from my right shoulder and gently wiped the sweats in my forehead. I pushed the stop button afterward to halt the treadmill.
"Law school, I'll pursue what they want," I replied.
"Are you sure?"
"Don't ask me that as if I have a choice."
I decided to work out since I have nothing to do. Plus, I am also grounded. Mas humigpit pa sila ngayon sa akin kaya kahit gustuhin ko man na gawin ang usual routine ko before─ shopping, pampering, and clubbing, ay hindi talaga uubra.
Somehow, I must say, Miles presence lit up my mood.
"And you'll continue the legacy of Velez's? I thought you wanted to build your own name."
Perhaps, after I get my license I'll run away again."
She laughed at me and eyed me like I am delirious.
Of course, that's a joke. I have my responsibility in our company since I am the heiress. I was born with it and already touched by the politics and business, so might as well live up to it. And who knows if I learn to love law and the corporate world along the way, right?
"By the way, my family is planning a birthday and home coming celebration for me next month. I'm expecting you to come," I told her.
"Of course, that must be grand!"
