third person

Danielle hugs her binders closer to her chest. The same worn out backpack she always wears is filled with some more binders and books. Last night, Danielle had pages upon pages of homework. She finished it, but not until 12 am. She only got about 6 hours of sleep, and her appearance showed it. Danielle has dark circles, her eyes droop close every now and then, and she drags her Converse covered feet everywhere she goes.

Sleepily, Danielle walks to her locker. She takes out all the binders and books from her backpack and puts them in her locker. Once her locker is shut and locked, she turns around, coming face to face with Jonas.

"Morning sunshine!" Jonas says enthusiastically.

Danielle glares at Jonas. She takes out her phone, texting him.

dani: I'm not in the mood...

jonas: Didn't sleep well?

dani: Yeah.

jonas: Homework?

dani: Loads of it...

"I understand, I didn't finish till like 1 am," Jonas replies.

Danielle looks at him with a shocked expression.

dani: How are you not tired? You finished later than I did.

jonas: Because I'm excited about your birthday! : )

dani: At least one of us is...

"You aren't?" Jonas asks out loud. Danielle shakes her head, no. "Well you will be," Jonas pauses, "after you see what I have planned."

Danielle rolls her droopy eyes and texting Jonas again.

dani: Let's just get to class. : )

"Okay," Jonas says, "after you captain." He salutes, following Danielle to their math class.

To both Jonas and Danielle, math class went by in a blur, but art class was a slow as it could be. Mr. Lowe decided to do a presentation on the history of the Mona Lisa. Everyone in class was practically asleep, Danielle even more so.

"The Mona Lisa was stolen on August 21, 1911," Mr. Lowe says, bringing up a picture of a blank space where the painting should be, "it wasn't recovered until 2 years later in December of 1913."

Danielle props her hand up underneath her chin, closing her eyes. She hears Mr. Lowe's speech for a few more minutes before falling asleep.

Danielle doesn't dream, but she does see a black abyss for a few seconds (it seemed).

She feels a light shaking on her shoulder.

"Dani?" a familiar voice whispers, "Dani, wake up. You slept through class."

Danielle groggily moves her arms from her face, stretching. She opens her eyes fully and sees Jonas in front of her. She blinks a few times and grabs her backpack and art binder.

"You weren't the only one who feel asleep," Jonas says pointing over to some guy with his head resting on the table, "at least you had someone as nice as me to wake you up."

Danielle takes out her phone from her pocket. Unlocking her phone, she texts Jonas.

dani: Thank you. : )

"No problem," he says, "see you after this next class?"

Danielle nods her head and waves goodbye to Jonas. Both go separate ways to their next class- Jonas to music and Danielle to language arts.
