[danielle]

The lunch bell rings, so I begin to make my way to the cafeteria. On my way there, Jonas joins my side.

"So what's on the menu today," he says, looking over the sign on the door, "Chicken and pizza. Mmm."

I take the pack of square notes from my pocket and write a message to him. I then stick it on his face.

You're such a food addict, it says.

"And you aren't?" he says with a smirk, "I was there at your family's dinner yesterday. I saw how fast you scarfed down that casserole."

I just roll my eyes.

Jonas leads me through the line, and we both grab our lunches. I grab a piece of pizza, a bag of chips, a soda, and a small Rice Krispies Treat for something sweet. I look over to what Jonas has, and he has a "feeds four family dinner" on his tray; it's two slices of pizza, a bag of chips, a soda, a water, and 2 cookies. When we get to the register, I tried paying for both Jonas and I's meals. Except, he didn't necessarily "approve" of that idea.

I tried giving the lady at the register my $20 bill, but Jonas kept trying to take it out of my hands. With my money in his hand, he takes out his own $20 bill to pay.

"Dani, let me pay," he says, but I shake my head. I grab my bill from his hand and force it towards the lady's face. The lady must have gotten annoyed because, she randomly grabs a bill--mine--and uses it to pay for our food.

I walk in confidence to our table, Jonas following behind me. We sit down, and as I begin to take my first bite, Jonas slides a $20 bill in my direction.

"Dani, I'm serious, take the money," he whispers. I lift my eyebrow and slide the money back. I take out my pack of notes again and write.

And I'm serious. I don't want your money.

"It's wrong if the person you buy food for doesn't pay you back," he says, "now, take it."

I take it, but only because I plan to give it back without Jonas noticing.

"Good. Now I can eat in peace," he says.
