Adolpha Blackwood whimpered to herself, holding her head sadly as she gripped the sheets tightly around her. The days leading up to the moon were always far worse when separated from your pack brothers- that was why they always banded together for the change. Currently, she lay in Caius' bed, whimpering away to herself. She didn't know why she had chosen his bed but she didn't have the energy to move now and the scent of him that lingered all over it seemed to somehow soothe her.
The next second, she weakly threw the bedding back, overheated. It was tiresome, the illness and she hadn't felt it in fifty-something years, that was how long it had been since she'd phased on her own, without her brothers.
"When Aro said you were ill, I didn't think that that required my attention. Quite frankly, you look like hell" Caius chimed as he appeared, he tended to have a habit of randomly appearing and she cringed at the seeming loudness of his voice. "But now you're sweating all over my bed... Even though you have your own bed, kindly gifted to you... You haven't even eaten your food" he continued to talk, eyes taking in the past two meals she had been given that lay untouched on the table. "Should I phone a doctor?" he finally approached her, seriousness wafting into his voice as he took in her pale skin and weak figure.
Reaching down uncertainly, Caius placed the back of his hand softly against her forehead and he almost jumped out of his skin when he felt how incredibly hot to the touch she was. Though he relaxed slightly after a second, curious to see the way she leant into his freezing cold touch, it was like water to the dehydrated and he blinked in shock.
"A doctor can't help what I have" she moaned out, voice hoarse and he barely caught the words she said. Her hot hands gently took his hand that was placed on her forehead and grabbed it, wedging his fingers under her head as a pillow which easily began to cool her slightly. The vampire scoffed, bent at an uncomfortable angle to allow for her new development.
"Budge up, Love" he nudged her and she groaned but pulled herself further into the centre of the bed. It was to her shock that Caius kicked his shoes off and slid into the bed beside her. The second he lay down, she curled into the coolness that he radiated. "It's okay" he breathed in only slight annoyance. In any other circumstance, he would absolutely not have been doing what he did at that moment but the girl seemed to simmer down the second his coolness touched her.
Cautiously, Caius unbuttoned his shirt in a swift movement and she instantly placed her cheek to his chest without hesitation, her arms sliding in within his shirt to wrap around him and he was glad to find that she seemed to cool down slightly, more so by the second.
"It feels like there's a marching band in my head" she breathed, her cheek squished against his cool marble chest and she wasn't completely oblivious to how toned his body was under her touch but her eyes didn't even have the energy to open and look at him as she pressed as much of herself as possible up against him.
"I'll have you know, if you ever tell anyone about this, I will lock you in your bedroom for a month" he hummed and she chuckled weakly, her breath fanning across his chest and he couldn't help himself as he ran one pale hand through her hair, her curls swirling around his long fingers and he was instantly satisfied, eyes widening when she leant into the touch, her face twisted to angle upwards so if he looked very sharply downwards, he could see her weakly frowning expression. She was stunning to him, even weak and frail. "Sleep now, little wolf. It's nearly time for the moon."
And she listened, it wasn't even a minute later that her breathing evened out and her heart rate slow as she held her closer, her small body easily stretched over the length of his. It was so easy to completely cover her small frame with his long arms. And he was comfortable, even with his shirt carefully folded open and his hair mused against the pillow. Holding her there, Caius Volturi finally realised how much she meant to him. Because when he walked in to see her weak form-- His first instinct was to draw her into his chest and keep her there, close and safe. It was something he was unfamiliar with but the feeling was so beautifully warm.
Adolpha was something of a comfort to him. Her company was enjoyable and as much as he hated it, the weakness that his longing for her brought; he couldn't bring himself to care at that moment. As Caius held her gently in the afternoon light- he could feel only content. It was the first time since being there with her that Caius allowed the emotions to flood back in. And for a moment, it felt absolutely brilliantly.
They lay there like that for hours, the blond man listening calmly to the fluttering on her heart as she lay on him, making cute noises in her sleep every so often that made him smile slowly. Though, inevitably- The time came for him to wake her and take her to the dungeons; Something that he felt awful doing.
"Adolpha" he breathed, shaking her gently and she moaned, holding on to him tightly. "Darling" he whistled and slowly, her eyes fluttered open, for a long moment she did nothing but stare at him with dreamy, sleepy eyes and he chuckled as he reached up to brush the hair from her eyes. "It's time"
"Okay" her voice was hoarse as she nodded and he gently helped her to stand, taking in the leggings and plain T-shirt she wore. He didn't mind her destroying those clothes as she phased. Smoothly rebuttoning his shirt, he helped her to stumble along all the way down into the coolness of the dungeon.
