Richie's POV
I look down at Eddie in my arms and see him drift off to sleep. I think about the conversation we just had, I had no idea Sonia was treating him so bad. I had a feeling she still was horrible to him, but I didn't know it was to this extent.
I wish I had asked him, I just didn't want to upset him and anyway he always seemed fine around me. He's really good at hiding things I just wish I had known, so that he wasn't going through all this alone.
I'm not even sure what I can do to help him, who do I tell?
As I'm lying here with Eddie asleep in my arms thinking about what I can do to help him, the phone rings.
I reach over and pick it up holding the receiver to my ear.
"Hello?" I ask whoever is on the other end of the line.
"Hello, is this the Kaspbrak residence?" he asks me.
"Yes. Who is this?" I ask sounding confused.
"This is the New Hampshire State Police. Who am I talking to?"
"I'm Richie, Eddie Kaspbrak's friend."
"Alright, well can you tell Eddie that we need him to come down to the NHSP as soon as possible."
"Yes, but can I ask why?"
"That is confidential, just tell Eddie to come down ASAP, alright."
"Alright."
"Thank you, goodbye."
"Bye." I say back before hanging up the phone.
I wonder what that's about. I look down at Eddie and see that he's still asleep. I gently shake his arm, trying to wake him up. He moves a bit then his eyes flutter open and lock onto mine.
"How long was I asleep?" he asks sounding half asleep.
"Not too long. The New Hampshire State Police just rang." I say looking down at him, as soon as I say it a look of worry goes over his face.
"What did they say?" he asks in a rushed voice.
"They want you to go down there as soon as."
"Did they say why?"
"No, they said it's confidential."
"Alright." he says sitting up to which I follow. He leans forward putting his elbows on his legs and holds his head in his hands.
"I can ask my mum to drive us down there if you want." I say putting my hand on his back trying to calm him.
"Yeah alright." he says nodding his head slightly into his hands.
I look over at the clock, it says it's 11:15am.
"I'll call her now and ask if she's available to take us."
"Okay, I'll go get changed while you ring her." he says lifting his head up and giving me a small smile before getting up off the sofa and making his way to his room.
I watch him leave then turn to the phone, picking it up and dialing my mum's number. It rings a few times before she picks up.
"Hello?" she asks in a chirpy tone.
"Hi mum."
"Richie! How are you?"
"I'm alright. Are you free today?"
"Yes I am. Why?"
"Can you drive me and Eddie down to the New Hampshire State Police?"
"Why, what's wrong?" she asks sounding concerned.
"They just rang and said that Eddie needs to go down there ASAP."
"Oh, did they say why?"
"No, they just said for him to go down."
"Alright, I just need to get dressed then I'll pick you both up and take you down."
"Thanks mum."
"No worries, I'll see you soon."
"Ok, bye."
I hang the phone up and make my way upstairs to Eddie's room. The door's partially open, I go in and see Eddie sitting on the end of his bed looking at the ground. I go over and sit next to him.
"My mum said she can take us and will be here soon." I gently say, placing my hand on his back.
"Thanks." he says while leaning into my side.
"No problem." I say wrapping my arms around him.
After a couple minutes he moves off of me and stands up.
"I'll wait downstairs so you can get dressed before your mum arrives." he says looking at me before heading out of the room and downstairs.
I get dressed and sort myself out before going down to the living room to join Eddie. A moment later the doorbell rings.
I go to the front door opening it to reveal my mum standing there. She steps in and gives me a hug. We pull apart then she goes over to Eddie who is now standing behind me and gives him a hug too.
"Alright, you boys ready?" she asks, pulling away from Eddie and looking at the both of us.
We nod our heads and she leads us to her car which is parked out the front. Eddie locks the door and we both sit in the back.
When we're all buckled in, my mum starts the car and starts driving down the road.
"Alright this will be about a four hour drive so I can book us a hotel room for the night after we've gone to the police station." my mum says to us.
"Yeah, that sounds alright." I respond.
"Do you two want your own rooms?"
"Can me and Richie share a room?" Eddie asks in a small voice looking at me then my mum. I nod my head at him so he knows that I'm more than alright with that.
"Of course you can." she sweetly says.
"Thanks." Eddie says with a smile.
After a couple minutes my mum puts the radio on to a random station. I look over at Eddie and see him looking out the window with a worried expression on his face. I reach over and grab his hand, holding it in a secure way to reassure him.
He turns his head looking at me. I give him a small smile while rubbing my thumb in circles on his hand so he knows he's safe. I see him visibly calm and give me a small smile in return.
We stay like that, holding hands throughout the whole of the car ride. Both to nervous to fall asleep, listening to the various songs being played on the radio.
My mind is racing with different thoughts of what could've happened, I just hope whatever it is isn't too bad for Eddie's sake.
