Warnings- mentions of slavery, dysphoria, loss
Written by Sam

The young Knight was uncomfortable to say the least. Here he was, carrying a sick child on his back whilst on the run from Asajj Ventress, Dooku's new apprentice. All whilst the child was that of the person who enslaved him and his mother for the first ten years of his life.

Thankfully, Ahsoka and R2 had managed to find a way out, so they had a chance. Until more droids came. They had ambushed the 501st, and Rex had been one of the few to survive. He was forced to contact his general, but managed to alert them that something was wrong when he was informal to his general, something that he never did.

The two Jedi came to a ledge, Ahsoka now had the child, and Anakin was locking the exit. He suddenly grabbed the huttlet back from Ahsoka and jumped, just as Ventress made it through the door, leaving the togrutan to fend her off. Ahsoka quickly became overpowered, and was being pushed back to the edge of the platform, about to plummet. Then, just in the nick of time, her master swooped up on the back of a strange buglike creature, pulling her to safety.

When they landed on a different platform, they began to think of a plan, they were trapped.
"Master, look! I think Stinky's pointing at something."
The little creature gestured to a landing platform, on which a ship could be seen.
"Good work snips, you too stinky."
"Thanks skyguy! Let's go." Her voice was full of a headstrong attitude one could only have whilst young. Anakin sighed, he was supposed to be giving the orders, but oh well.

It took a while, but they were at the ship, and the child was getting ill. Anakin had a dilemma, complete the mission, or save his men. He knew what he wanted to do, but duty comes first. Once the rusty bucket of bolts known as the twilight was airborne, he commed Rex, "hey Rex, the huttlet isn't gonna survive if we don't get him home, I'm sorry, I'm not gonna be able to help."
His tone was heavy and sombre, he hated leaving his men, and they knew it.

"Don't worry general, the mission comes first."

He switched off his com and began contacting the fleet above them. He was about to land when one of the cruisers was destroyed. 'Not good' he thought, turning to his new padawan, who had just given the child some medicine, he simply said,
"Looks like we're taking this all the way to Tatooine."

Coming out of hyperspace, he saw the place he never wanted to come back to. Ahsoka remembered that this was his home planet, and she was very interested.
"This your home right? What was it like?"

"Horrible."

His bluntness stunned her, that was not the reaction she expected. Most people, especially Jedi, seem to live visiting the place they were born, but Anakin was different.

"We need to get going if we're gonna make it across the dune sea by nightfall. It's not going to be fun, but we can't afford to waste time."

As the suns beat down on them, Ahsoka noticed that her master never removed his leather armour, whereas she would have stripped to her tunic and shorts at most. He was clearly sweating, it didn't make sense.

"You know what would be a good way to pass the time, telling stories of our childhood! I'll start, master Plo found me when I was three, he saved me from pirates and I've been at the temple ever since. What about you?" She was rather on the nose when she wanted something, a bit like Anakin.

"I was born, I grew up, I was Obi-Wan's padawan, now I'm a knight." It was the most basic summary of his life, and the most he was willing to reveal.

"Surely there's more than that, why were you so adverse to helping this huttlet? Why do you hate it here? Do you have any family?"

Anakin felt bombarded, he didn't like this much questioning, and he snapped.

"You wanna know why I hate it here? My mum and I were being trained to be dancers for Jabba when we were sold to him as slaves!" His voice hung in the air, and Ahsoka knew she'd gone too far, but she had to get the full story.

"Wait, I thought only girls were dancers, why would you be one?"

"Because I was one. I was born and raised as a girl. Even in the temple, until I was fifteen. And I know you're wondering why I don't take my armour off, it's because I hate my body and I have a prosthetic arm. And don't say that I shouldn't hate, because I know, I've been dealing with this for about six years. That's me. Now if you bring this up again, I will leave you with commander Cody and say you broke rules."

Ahsoka felt bad, but still chuckled at her supposed punishment. Perhaps she could ask Obi-Wan about it, but only if Anakin was okay with it. She'd definitely gained a new respect for her master, like Rex said, he's got a lot going on.

The rest of the mission went relatively smoothly, Ahsoka had to stop Anakin from destroying Jabba's translator after the slug said something very rude, but the child was safe. Sadly, when the pair returned to the Resolute, they were informed that there were only 6 men left in the 501st, it was a devastating blow to Anakin and Rex. The remaining men were brought to meet Ahsoka, and she could only feel sympathy.

"Ahsoka, this is the 501st, Kix, Coric, Appo, Hawk, Beef, and you already know Rex." Anakin introduced them as they stood in formation.

"I'm sorry for your loss, I hope we can become good friends."

The group disbanded and Anakin and Ahsoka headed to their shared quarters. Once inside, Anakin made a beeline for the fresher, and grabbed sleeping robes on his way. Ahsoka waited for her turn, and she was quite stunned at how different her master looked when ready for bed, she didn't comment however, and simply got ready herself.
Content with her shower, she was about to head to sleep when she heard voices. Looking up she saw Anakin on a video call to someone, being the curious fellow she was, she had to listen in.

"Hey Padmé, I miss you, it's been too long."

So it was someone called Padmé, the only person she'd heard of with that name was, Senator Amidala!

"Hey Ani, I miss you too, I thought you were coming home after Christophsis, what happened?"

"I had to protect the son of Jabba the Hutt. Nearly destroyed the sleemo's droid, he tried saying that I was better suited to be his toy, and made fun of my mother..."

"Oh, oh baby, it's okay, once you get back, you can come to mine, it's okay, I'm here, always."

"Promise? You'll always be with me?" His voice was shakier than usual, it was clear he was vulnerable around her. Ahsoka thought it was sweet.

"Always, I love you. I'll let you get some sleep, see you soon."

"See you soon Mé, I love you."

The call ended and Anakin turned to his padawan, she pretended to be asleep, but he knew better.

"I know you were listening, and before you ask, we're engaged. She'll love you, and by the time you've spent an hour together you'll probably be best friends... Oh god, that's not gonna be fun." He said the last part under his breath, he did not look forward to his fiance and his padawan ganging up on him. But if they were happy, it wouldn't be too bad.

Ahsoka smiled at the thought, a yawn escaped her and she turned back to her master.
"Goodnight master."
"Goodnight Ahsoka."
